Two tourists die in Phuket beach drowning incidents

Yesterday at the beaches of Phuket, two unfortunate drowning accidents led to the deaths of a tourist from Hong Kong at Patong Beach and another tourist from Kazakhstan at Karon Beach.

On Patong Beach, yesterday, July 31, a tourist from Hong Kong, 52-year-old Che Ka Fai, also known as Andy, was retrieved from the sea unconscious and not breathing. Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongpipat Khamchomphu, the Deputy Inspector in charge of investigation at Patong Police, confirmed the incident.

Che Ka Fai's 15-year-old son, Che Ho Wa, told the police that they went for a swim around 11am in an area indicated safe for swimming by yellow-red flags. However, they drifted into a no-swimming zone marked by red flags. Realizing that his father was in distress about 50 metres away, the son attempted to help but could not reach him, so he called for assistance.

A lifeguard saved Che and brought him back to the shore. CPR was performed until a medical emergency team arrived. Even though continued attempts were made to resuscitate him en route to Patong Hospital, Che was declared dead at 12.38pm. The Chinese Consulate in Phuket has been informed about the incident.

No...the lifeguard didn't save Che...he retrieved his dead body...which is pretty much what lifeguards do in Phuket. Too busy playing on their phones to practice any kind of prevention. Just keep the red flags flying, and blame the victim when things go south.

The sea can be very dangerous at this time of the year.

I think that is about 9 reported drownings so far in Phuket this year.

And here we have the Thai blaming right on que. As if the lifeguards have full view of the whole beach and are required to babysit everyone
