Pattaya City has initiated a groundbreaking project to assist local fishers and protect marine life. The project involves buying low-grade blue swimming crabs from the fishermen and releasing them into the Na Kluea mangrove forest.

 

The scheme offers 250 baht for every kilogram of crabs caught by the fishers, aiming to strike a balance between protecting the environment and generating income for the community.

 

Collaborating for this nature restoration project, due for execution in the fiscal year 2024, are the divisions of Natural Resources, Environmental Quality Promotion, and the Office of Natural Resources and Environment. The project's goal is to restore the ecosystem's totality and foster ecotourism.

 

On Tuesday, July 30, as part of this conservation effort, the blue swimming crabs were let out at the Lan Pho local fishing dock. This action not only aids in restoring the environment but also boosts ecotourism in the vicinity.

 

Ban Na Kluea, where Pattaya’s last mangrove forest stands, is a major tourist draw. By recognizing its significance, Pattaya City actively backs the conservation of this distinctive ecosystem.

 

The city buys small and juvenile blue swimming crabs from the Model Fisheries Group in Ban Na Kluea at a going rate of 250 baht per kilogram. This plan not only helps protect local marine species but also supports the income of fishing communities, as per Pattaya News.

 

Prasert Jindadi, leader of the Natural Resources Department, emphasized the positive impact of the initiative.

 

“This project demonstrates how considerate actions can create a harmonious relationship between environmental protection and community prosperity,” he said.
