Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand

Simon's sister (right) believes he boarded a plane to Helsinki

The mystery around Simon Robinson's disappearance has deepened. Simon, 27, was last seen in Thailand and due to fly home on 26th July. His sister, Sarah Robinson Dale, disclosed he had indeed boarded a flight to Helsinki, Finland, shifting the search significantly.

Simon left the UK for Thailand on 22nd July. Three days before he was due to fly back on 3rd August, he called his girlfriend stating he would return early. Shockingly, he hasn’t been seen or heard from since that call, reported THE SUN.

Initially, Simon’s family believed he vanished in Bangkok, not boarding his flight. His phone had last pinged near the airport. In a recent Facebook announcement, Sarah said, "We have confirmation Simon boarded the flight. Thanks to everyone who helped. I await a response from the police and embassy in Helsinki."

Contrary to this, UK police had suggested Simon did not board any flight, creating confusion. South Yorkshire Police confirmed Simon's case was reported to them but did not issue a missing person's appeal.

Essential information came from an alleged Thai immigration officer stating Simon was on Finnair flight AY142, bound from Bangkok to Helsinki. While Sarah confirmed this herself, Finnair, when contacted, couldn’t disclose passenger details.

Simon's friend, Sam Champ, mobilised social media to find him. He posted, "My dear friend Simon has gone missing in Bangkok. He was supposed to fly on 26th July but didn’t show up. It was his birthday yesterday and we’re all worried. Please share this post."

The Foreign Office said they were ready to assist any Brit abroad but refrained from commenting specifically on Simon's case. Meanwhile, Interpol stated they do not comment on particular cases unless under unique circumstances.

The new lead has heightened the urgency and deepened the mystery about where Simon could be. The Robinson family remains hopeful for answers as authorities investigate further.

    He just vanished into Finnair!

I rather doubt that any airline would reveal passenger details to anyone other than authorized entities such as the police or immigration. The Sun newspaper hardly falls into that category.

  • Stopped off in Finland for a spot of berry picking ?

Unless one believes in telportation, he either never boarded the plane or he disappeared between exiting the plane and border control.

The airline obviously know if he was on the flight, as the crew have to know who is on the plane, and to say they won't release that info is inexcusable, IMO.

Missing Brit from Bangkok airport boarded flight to Finland

The baffling disappearance of a British tourist hours before his flight from Bangkok has taken a twist: his sister insists he did board a plane.

Sarah Robinson-Dale revealed that her brother, 27 year old Simon Robinson, boarded a flight to Helsinki, Finland. This revelation has shifted the search a staggering 5,000 miles from Southeast Asia to the Arctic Circle.

Initially, Robinson was feared to have vanished in Bangkok, leaving his family distraught and believing he never boarded his July 26 flight home, despite his phone pinging near the airport minutes before departure.

“We have received confirmation that Simon did board the flight on July 26. A massive thank you to everyone who shared and to the kind people who found this information, as police on both sides haven’t done anything. I am waiting for a call back from the police and embassy in Helsinki.”

South Yorkshire Police confirmed Robinson’s case was reported to them but hadn’t issued their own missing person’s appeal. The missing Brit’s sister mentioned that the information about him leaving Thailand emerged despite UK police confirming he didn’t.

The family’s new theory was prompted by a man claiming to be a Thai immigration officer, who informed them Robinson was on flight AY142 – Finnair’s Bangkok-Helsinki route. Dale confirmed her brother jetted off to Finland but did not reveal the source of her confirmation.

Finnair declined to provide customer information when The Sun requested verification of Robinson’s flight details.

Robinson, from Skegness, Lincolnshire, initially flew to Thailand on July 22 and was not due home until August 3. However, on July 26, he called his girlfriend to announce he was flying home early. He has not been heard from since.

The UK Foreign Office stated it stands ready to assist any Brit abroad but refrained from commenting on Simon’s case. Interpol also declined to comment, citing the need for special circumstances or approval from the missing person’s country, reported The Sun UK.

ORIGINAL STORY: Search for British tourist who disappeared at Bangkok airport

A 27 year old British tourist embarked on a dream holiday to Thailand but has mysteriously vanished, leaving his loved ones in a state of despair.

Simon Robinson jetted off to Thailand on July 22, planning to soak up the Sun until August 3. However, just days into his trip, he phoned his girlfriend on July 26, announcing his early return. That call was the last anyone heard from him.

According to The Lincolnite, Robinson, who spends much of his time in Boston, Lincolnshire, UK, never boarded his flight despite his phone pinging near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Since that fateful call, his phone has been switched off, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Friends and family are now frantically raising awareness to initiate a search effort.

South Yorkshire police have confirmed that Simon’s case has been reported, though they have not launched a missing persons appeal. The Foreign Office has stated it is ready to assist any British national abroad.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the missing Brit’s sister, Sarah Robinson Dale, expressed her anguish.

“I am going out of my mind here. I am receiving hundreds of messages and don’t have time to reply to them all. I am thankful for everyone’s support and sharing.”

Dale urged anyone in Bangkok to contact the police if they see her brother and encouraged people in other countries to keep sharing his picture.

“As soon as I have any information, I will update on here. Forever grateful, let’s get Simon home.”

Dale was due to speak with the British embassy in Thailand yesterday.

Robinson’s friend, Sam Champ, also took to social media to spread the word.

“One of my dear friends has gone missing in Bangkok, he hasn’t been heard from since July 26.

He was supposed to board a flight that day but he didn’t show up. It was his 27th birthday yesterday and everyone is growing very concerned. He has been reported as a missing person.”

Champ attached a picture of his friend, urging people in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand to share the post to help locate his friend, reported The Sun UK.

As I said yesterday: he got his own private plan and destination. Terrible family having to supervise their little toddler?

Time to give him freedom. But I suppose he's getting to take his freedom now.

I agree.
Of course, they shouldn’t release details to any Tom, Dick or Harry, but I would think family members have the right to know if a loved one was on a particular flight.

Yes, the story of my wayward life. My mother once mailed me 2 blank sheets of writing paper and a pre-addressed envelope!

One would think that confirming he got on and off the flight ould be a remarkably straightforward process. Thia police would have an image of him captured as he passed through immigration. The Finns, likewise will have records if he entered.

So where TF is he?

Found Thailand too hot for his English complexion so decided on a cooler climate to visit.

True, and hundreds are sold into slavery, murdered, kidnapped for ransom, and have accidents, so people who care for others actually worry.

What if I don't want my family to know?  They don't have a right...

I do agree the airline should release the information to the authorities.  But not to a media source, nor the family.  The fam should be working through the authorities, and even then, the authorities should respect privacy rights.

Well, some older children care about their parents, and keep in touch. Some much of the time because they are close.

That's true, but they would have to ask in person or maybe from a police station who can verify details.

He is the one who keeps in touch with his family frequently. This is why they are worried. Him getting on another flight besides the one where he's going home, as told to his girlfriend, is suspicious. Why to Finland? I don't assume things but it does sound fishy, and if it were my son, I would also wonder why he changed plans to a totally different country.

In this photo, he looks almost not old enough to be drinking alcoholic drinks.

They keep records of people who actually do border the plane of course, by checking in at showing your boarding pass. Where could he disappear from the plane to border control? They won't tell anyone besides the authorities any information about passengers, to safeguard their, and others flight.

I didn't say he was sold . I said many are sold, daily actually. Trafficking also involves drug runners. I don't need TV to keep up on what goes on in the world. News, TV news, yahoo news, word of mouth are ways one sees what's going on worldwide. TV is for movies and series.

And it's pretty obvious that they DID release the information. (to an appropriate person) How else would his sister have known that he was on that flight?

He just vanished into Finnair!

A short trip in and out of Bangkok, then an unusual route taken back to a third country. Not Thailand news. Some people here are as stubborn as Mules in clinging to a story.

he's in the bar somewhere with a spring chicken on his knee and he's staying put because he can drink and bang.

If he goes back he'll be bored.

Not really he's an adult so it remains private, after all he might not be a loved one, by some families. I'm speaking generally not maybe in this particular case.
