The Seal  Premium has a 650km range based on NEDC which it would appear that most Seal Premium owners on this forum feel doesn't match real driving

You state that there are "thousands of charging stations out there. There are thousands of charging units, but not thousands of charging stations.  A charging station will have multiple charging units. Most are not fast charging appropriate for travelers.  The stretch from Hua Hin to Phuket  does not have  thousands of charging stations available to travelers. For example, between Kui Buri and Chumphon there are 5 charging stations. FIVE. They are all proximate to Highway 4. Live anywhere off that lifeline and you are SOL.  

 

You are approaching  this with the zeal of a former addict/new convert to a religion. I am not an apostate, nor do I deny that EVs are a viable option, but it is weighed against the ability to service and to charge the vehicles. An EV is fine for a large metropolitan region, but in Thailand it is going to be a source of frustration and stress outside the urban zones. The person was asking about a vehicle in respect to driving from Bangkok to Phuket.

 

In respect to  vehicle range, I take the promises of the EV manufacturers  in the same way I take gas fuel efficiencies: Knowing that there is bloat. The range promises for EV vehicles do not take into consideration Thailand's heat.  It is not a slur to acknowledge that EVs are ideal for moderate climate zones.   Thailand's hot temperatures impact charging. It is not unusual for the  ambient temperature  at some charging stations to be near the 40C. We just went through a heat wave where temperatures were regularly 35C-40C .  It is a reality that EV regenerative braking efficiency and charging times are significantly impacted. Tailbacks and road delays are a fact of life in this region  Taking an hour or more to go 20 km is a reality.  I have had to wait out road closures due to crashes and debris on highway 4 several times over the years. 

 

You are pushing the Chinese Seal models. Like any other new vehicle model it is best to wait some time for the reliability data to be gathered.

Actually, there ARE thousands of charging stations (2,658 at Dec 2023) and nearly 10,000 charging units.

If you lived in Chumphon and were driving to Kui Buri, you would need ZERO charging stations, if you did need one, say you forgot to charge at home, you have 5 to choose from, probably none of them would be fully occupied.  What you fail to understand is that when owning an EV you don't need any charging stations within 150-300km of your home (assuming you charge at home) and if you're on a trip, you only need them every 250-450km, you don't need 5 on a 220km journey.  Likewise, Phuket doesn't need many for travelers, I usually choose a hotel where I can charge my car overnight, which nowadays is a huge percentage.

 

I take your point on heat affecting batteries, but EV's have heat pumps and the battery is thermally managed, it's never 40C when the outside temperature is 40C except when parked. Yes heat may affect charging times as the battery is cooled but it won't affect regenerative braking which is typically done at 0.2 to 0.4 of the cars maximum power output.

 

EV's come into their own during stop/start & tailback driving, air conditioning, power brakes, power assisted steering are all battery operated, so the consumption is this kind of traffic is where they shine.

 

I am one of those people who like to buy or even pre-order a new model.  I accept there can be risks in doing that as people who ordered the Toyota Tundra 2022-2023 and Lexus LX600 have found out with their engines suffering catastrophic failure, you have to trust the manufacturer and their warranty.  BYD are one of the biggest car makers in the world, I trust their warranty.

 

Driving Bangkok to Phuket is best answered by @KhunLA who regularly approximates this trip.

I own a PHEV with an electric range of over 150 km. I have driven it a few times from Chiang Mai to KL with zero issues. During the Thai leg of the journey, about 70% of my drive is electric, in Malaysia, even more so. Extremely comfortable, smooth, quietly purring along the highways. Superbly made.
 

I charge at home using solar and sometimes at night at TOU rates. For the whole of 2024, I probably spent less than Thb 1,000 baht on fuel up till now. And Thb 0 on servicing and maintenance.

 

It’s one of my best motoring purchase ever. Shame though that the OP doesn’t like CH made cars.

It seems like you have very little idea of what you are talking about.

 

Circumstances and situations in the US and UK are very different from in Thailand. For starters, the US doesn’t have Chinese made EVs (indisputably better than US and European made EVs) for sale. Thailand also doesn’t have freezing temperatures which will affect their range. In the UK, motorway services are miles apart, congregating scores of drivers in one services. In Thailand, the petrol stations are usually just a few kms apart and a lot of these have rapid charging units. There are also issues of taxation, leasing etc in the UK affecting EV purchases which doesn’t apply here in Thailand.

 

If you want to prove a point, then tell us what percentage of EV owners in Thailand would switch back to an ICEV as their next purchase. I believe very, very few.

Are you working for TAT don't know where you get your 33% from  and these figures are for the February 1st 2023 to 31st July 2023 and February 1st 2024 to 31st July 2024
