Tofu - where is the best tofu in town to buy for cooking at home!

Featured Replies

Hello

do you know where I could find delicious tofu - either a restaurant or market or a (supermarket)? For cooking purposes at home!

How do you ask tofu in thai because they often are confused iwith tauhu (that yellow egg thing)?

Walk about several supermarkets recommended.

You are confused thinking that a word can only refer to one thing. Tauhu is correct.  Yellow egg thing,  you really don’t know what it is ?

oh my mistake I responded to another lolo asking for “the best “

That yellow stuff in a tube is tofu with egg added.

Give us a clue how you want to use the tofu as my wife uses different types for different dishes.  So... "best" needs context.

For fresh tofu that I'll use in Chinese and Japanese dishes, I buy large squares at Tannin Market (made fresh daily) or if those vendors are out of stock I'll use supermarket tofu. I can find the same brand that I used to buy in Japan at both Rimping and Tops. Otherwise, for Thai dishes, I prefer to use the stuff in tubes.

My fav tofu is from Big C.

I cook Mapo Tofu at home often, with about 200g mince pork, red chili past (Daubanjiang), Chinese cooking wine.

Do you add some toasted, ground Szechuan peppercorns on top when serving? Adds a really nice touch!
