A 54-year-old man attending a relative’s funeral at a temple in Phatthalung Province was fatally shot at close range by the nephew of another funeral host at the same temple. The police are currently on the hunt for the suspect.

On August 31, Police Lieutenant Boonrit Nukiow, Deputy Investigator at Pa Phayom Police Station, along with Police Colonel Nathasakorn Ketkhaw, the Pa Phayom Police Chief, other related officers, rescue teams from Pa Phayom, forensic experts from Phatthalung Province, and the on-duty doctor from Pa Phayom Hospital, responded to a report of a fatal shooting at Wat Thung Chumphon in Moo 3, Lan Khoi Subdistrict, Pa Phayom District, Phatthalung Province.

Upon arrival, authorities found the body of Mr. Chalermsak, 54, a resident of Songkhla Province. He had been shot at close range with a 9mm firearm, sustaining one gunshot wound to the back of his neck and another to his chin, leading to his instant death. Several bullet casings were recovered at the scene and have been collected as evidence to aid in identifying the perpetrator.

Initial investigations revealed that two separate funeral services were being held at the temple. The victim, who had been staying in Trang Province, arrived by motorcycle to attend his relative’s funeral. While at the service, he was reportedly eating and drinking alcohol, during which time he became loud and disruptive. His behavior reportedly angered the relatives of the other funeral being held nearby.

The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Kritsada Kamlangkuea, a relative of the other funeral, approached the victim and shot him at close range, leading to his death amidst the shocked reactions of attendees from both funeral services. The suspect then fled the scene.

Police are urgently seeking the suspect and have been in contact with his relatives, urging him to surrender.

Relatives of the funeral host were unwilling to discuss the incident, and those present at the event were similarly reticent. Mr. Phon, an uncle of the deceased who had initially sat with him at the funeral, claimed not to have witnessed the shooting but confirmed that the victim had moved from their funeral service to the other before he was shot.

Ms. Bow, the daughter of the deceased, expressed confusion over the motive behind her father’s murder, stating that she only learned of the incident from her mother and had traveled to the temple to collect his body. She added that her father and she lived separately.

The victim's brother mentioned that the deceased had attended a relative’s funeral and was known to drink alcohol like many others. He speculated that the altercation that led to the shooting might have stemmed from a conflict with the other party's relatives.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the suspect and uncover the exact cause of the altercation.

Wow, how dare the other funeral party make more noise than theirs. Thai funerals are not a time of mourning for sure, although now perhaps the one persons party there were actually people crying this time. Sad that such violence continues to occur over such stupid reasons.

well if they were quick enough they could have thrown him in as a third participant to be cremated,  it would have saved alot of pre-arrangement.
