Lucky for him, that Thai customs didn't arrest him, but chose to inform customs in UK instead.

I agree. He'll get a more lenient sentance in the soft touch UK judicial system. Likely be out within two years (if found guilty of course).

As for the Thai's informing the UK customs. Two years ago I returned from BKK to LHR. On arrival, my passport would not work at the E-gates. Had to go to a desk agent. Almost immediately, there were two customs officers there. They escorted me to a holding area, I could see an image on their screen that was one of my cases contents. They questioned me as to what I was bringing with me. One officer took me to baggage re-claim where I collected bags and then to the custom area for a full search. I had with me 30 kilos of massage balm (for a friend who owns a massage shop). That was not what they were interested in though warned me about commercial import rules. What they were interested in was the contents of the other case which had the ashes of a deceased aquaintance being brought back for his family. I had all the paperwork. Still took one hour of searching. This shows that Thailand definitely informed the UK to chaeck my bags. The UK customs would neither confirm nor deny that - with a smile.

I was scanned and searched on arrival in Turkey and again on arrival in Birmingham.

did you have the bag with you in both instances ? were the bags scanned on arrival as you were passing through immigration ? after you picked up the bag from the carousel i mean.

the other poster was talking about scanners after you check your bag i think. are you talking same or ?

Why when there are weed growers all over the UK growing high strength weed and why was he not arrested when he checked the bags in , as they tell you to go to an area and wait while scanned and if you don't see your bag after a few minutes you carry on walking.

Would have to be pretty blind to look at a scanner and not see what it was the way it's packed , especially in 5 cases all together.

The UK should legalise too and put an end to this type of crime.

As an ex uk Customs officer I have only one thing to say to you,Bollocking, you don't know the harm it does. These kids will now not have a father for a number of years. How is mama going to deal with that. If it was legally uk , dad would be stoned every da and not providing for hsi  family. You have a very shallow understanding of the consequences for the family. Probably you don't have one.

He actually would be commended in Thailand as an example farang who helped to boost the nation's exports. Keep in mind that cannabis is legal in Thailand and he was helping the Thai economy by exporting one of their crops!

Well at least he wont go to prison. With the prisons full of people committing free speech and anxiety crimes . Even pedophiles get suspended prison sentences now.

Yes- ridiculous state of affairs!

As an "ex uk Customs officer" you would have a better grasp of the English language!

Dogs would pick that right up in luggage claim. Not sure what this guy was thinking.

He wasn't thinking of the consequences - that's for sure!

He wont get two years. The prisons are full. If Huw Edwards can get a suspended sentence for being a sex pervert then what chance is there for this guy to import what is openly sold on the streets of the UK. The police treat hate crimes half more seriously than this.

Where ever he brought the stuff the grower was very happy for sure. The thais let it go maybe why not at swampty and keep it arrest and jail the man. They get a pat on the back and maybe a special bonus after. But they let go for heathrow, anyone knows that bags are scanned at both airports when leaving or arriving so how did he think he get away with it.anyway he will get a cell and can tell the other inmates he was a drug courier  for many years to come. The thais got a favour now coming back to them soon i imagine from the uk saying thanks for this
