Hello,

I have Windows 11 installed on an "uncompatible "PC ( only because my processor is 7 st generation )

today, in Windows update, I received a message for update 24H2 ( it's the first day )

I said Ok, and everything was updated as usual, but when I look in "system ", I see that I am still with 23H2

Does it mean that the update didn't work ? why , and how to update to 24 H2 ?

thanks

The Win11 24H2 patch update is not available until 8th October.  Your old PC may not be able to run it.

If you wondering whether your PC is compatible with 24H2, Microsoft is not altering the system requirements for the new version, though devices running very old processors will no longer be able to bypass the requirements.

The October 8 2024 Patch Tuesday update will also see another major change. The company announced yesterday that Quality Updates will now be pushed during the initial provisioning (OOBE) on Intune-managed devices.

Another member started a thread recently that Microsoft has now blocked the work arounds that many were using to install Windows 11 on incompatible hardware.

Check it out.

I know but my computer is already with Win 11 , and it was not with Rufus

my fault, the update I was talking about was for 23H2

I wait till october 8 th, and see if it works for my "old" computer ( which, in fact, runs Win 11 perfectly )

Many CPUs are in the same state, meeting the requirements, but not on the supported CPU list. The reason is as follows: Windows 11 needs some security features like VBS. These features are not present on older CPUs. If you install Windows 11 on these unsupported CPUs, the PC security and performance are not guaranteed.

I'm running Win 10 Home edition, which (legitimately) came with this laptop in 2016; my hardware also is incompatible with 11.  After that fiasco earlier this year I restored from a previous backup and have avoided updates since.  I'm a software engineer (retired) so I understand that mistakes do happen, but the corrupted updates is colossal egg-on-the-face.

I intend to switch to Linux at some point (the dual-boot stuff is in place) but it's work, and I'm enjoying my lazy lifestyle.  I have the impression MS has been deliberately slowing down Win10 via updates as a further boot in the arse to get with 11.  The only way I'm going to do that is if this laptop dies and I buy another with a legit 11 license.
