Crash on Motorway 7: Woman Killed After Car Collides with Truck & is Then Run Over by Van

The incident occurred at approximately 05.30 October 1, on motorway 7, in front of the 7-Eleven distribution centre, when a car rear-ended an 18-wheeler truck, leading to the death of the driver.

 

Emergency services were alerted to the scene, where the sedan had collided with the back of the truck. The force and speed of the crash had rolled the car over and caused the female driver to be ejected from the vehicle and onto the roadway. 


Moments later, a van following closely behind when the collision occurred was unable to avoid the driver and ran over the top of the victim, leaving her dead at the scene from multiple injuries. That section of the motorway section had to be temporary closed for the cleanup of the scene and removal of the vehicle.

 

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and the identity of the victim have not yet been released.

Every part of this accident could have been avoided with proper driver education & traffic law enforcement. 😟

 

Yup, a perfect example of the completely lunatic behavior played out on Thai streets daily.

To me it stands totally clear that the woman driving the sedan is at 100% fault, as she must have been driving too close to the 18 wheeler to be able to break or react. That will always make the one who rear-ends another truck/car the responsible part at fault. That the van must have been tailgating is not necessary true. The woman was ejected from the car, which might mean she landed where the van driver was driving. That can mean another lane or exactly where the van driver tried to drive to avoid hitting the car unaware of the ejected woman.

Even if so, do you know that is the case and reason in this particular accident?

I have been driving in Thailand for over 20 years, and never had an accident, and also not much problem. It´s just that people like to complain. Sure, they have high accident and death statistics, and some drive like crazy, but overall it´s quite ok.

I am about to make my 3 times a year journey to Bangkok.  During my time I have seen ONE police car actively working to dissuade lawbreakers.  I have seen hundreds of police cars escorting VIP convoys at high speed. 

On every journey I observe scores of dangerous drivers, speeding & weaving from lane to lane; tail-gating.  Thailand's appalling daily road kill is the direct result of ineffectual policing.

That is only part of the issue. In Thailand it seems that the role of the police is car is to travel from A to B and not get involved in law enforcement en route.

 

The appalling road kill count is initially down to lack of education and training.............correct policing is a small factor and should come after education.

And occasionally transport tourists at a price around the traffic jams!

You can educate the beejeezus out of people and they'll still misbehave if they can get away with it.

 

When I was a kid, I was more afraid of the cops than dying in a fiery crash.  So I practiced driving to avoid tickets.  Not so coincidentally, that was good practice to avoid fiery wrecks.

 

They need to send some Thai cops to California to ride around with CHIPs for a few weeks, then buy them some of those Dodge Challenger chase vehicles.  (Better yet, send them to ride with that cop that does all the PIT maneuver YouTubes, Kentucky, I think?) 

 

The only answer is to make it too expensive to drive like an idiot.  That means enforcement, not more wienie education.

Sadly it is, especially on fast roads. It freaks me out. Minivans used to be a real scourge on fast road (and coaches) driving 2 inches from your back bumper. I take my foot off the gas and slow down slowly.
