At a quick look it seems to be a kind of krait, but hard to see. If so, it will be venomous. How ever, very easy to mistake a Dindon septentrionalis for a Krait. In that case harmless.

I was walking home and there was a snake in the road.

What kind of snake is this? Is it poisonous?

Didn't you ask the Grab rider across the street?

That's not the python I told you who lives there.

Nice to hear he got some company.

A bit further up the soi is a pretty green one, it's often indoors.

I lived in OnNut Soi 17 for many years, we had many snakes on the Moobaan, most of those were venomous..

That looks like a Banded Kukri snake.

I agree with others - it looks like a (harmless) Rat Snake.

It is NOT a Krait!

Rule of thumb: if they move slowly,  they are venomous.

If they move fast,  not so.

Exception: cobra.

Don't try applying that rule with a taipan or mamba.

I don't know what species it is but ... pedant alert ... it's unlikely to be poisonous - venomous, maybe.

Sorry.

IMO the locals would know which species are edible.

As @chickenslegs has pointed out, there is a difference between venomous and poisonous.

However, you are correct. Poisonous and venomous are used interchangeably with snakes, when poisonous should be reserved for any creature that is dangerous to consume due to the toxins it contains.

Too late - OP has never been heard of again.

He was so scared of this toxic snake, he jumped straight into Khlong Bangchin and drowned.

Oriental Rat Snake, harmless but I am not going anyplace close as they have sharp teeth and can cause severe bleeding. These creatures may be worshiped by many, but they are a threat to humans despite the fact that they do regulate green spaces of pests as they feed on frogs, lizards, rats and other nuisances. Respect nature and it's balance of course, but no where close to where I am.
