Popular Post snoop1130 Posted October 4, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 4, 2024 Thailand is currently contending with intense monsoon rains, leading to extensive flooding which has significantly impacted aviation operations. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is implementing rapid response strategies to address these challenges, ensuring safe travel amidst the turbulence. The umbrella organisation, Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI), is spearheading these efforts. According to Deputy Transport Minister Monporn Charoensri, AEROTHAI is following the International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) guidelines to enhance air traffic safety and efficiency during these trying times. Floods have caused many travellers to rethink their plans, with AEROTHAI introducing alternative air traffic plans like rerouting flights and deploying holding patterns. These steps are critical to maintaining safety and flexibility in air operations. In addition, all flights have been advised to carry extra fuel to counter delays caused by adverse weather conditions. Airlines and passengers are being kept in the loop via consistent communication about potential changes in flight schedules, with strong encouragement to stay updated through announcements from Thailand’s Meteorological Department. AEROTHAI's CEO, Napasin Jakpitak, underscored the necessity for vigilance and readiness, ensuring all units are on high alert to provide timely assistance in flood-prone zones. Officials have also been active on the ground, distributing relief packages to flood-stricken communities while ensuring the aviation sector remains adaptable and ahead of the looming weather threats. Travellers are urged to exercise patience and allow additional time for journeys, as delays and cancellations become increasingly frequent under the unpredictable weather conditions seen throughout the monsoon season. KhunBENQ Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Intense monsoon rains currently?? Chaos? At Bangkok airports? Where and when? There has been intense rain and there are flooded areas. But currently and for the coming days there is little to no rain in the forecast except for some in the south. 1 1

Stargeezr Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Hopefully the weather will be more favorable from November until March. One can only hope as a nearly yearly visitor.

And the weather was not that bad in all regions. Floods mainly in the north. Phuket hit hard.

TallGuyJohninBKK Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Funny that we have all the aviation officialdom puffery in the OP... But absolutely no mention of this news item amid heavy rains from just a few days ago: 1

There's been absolutely zero chaos at Bangkok airports recently, at least not anything caused by the weather. In fact, today was mostly sunny the entire day. I think the article is referring to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket without saying it. All three cities and their airports have been affected by flooding in recent times. Phuket has been impacted multiple times already this rainy season. 1
Wanderer555 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 It is curious to me that the current record level of flooding in Chiang Mai is seemingly being ignored by many media outlets. The attached photos are all from today and courtesy of Chiang Mai News. Approximately 50% of the greater CM area ( mostly the Eastern side) is now flooded including portions of the superhighway. The water is slowly moving south of the city, and peak flood levels subsiding. Additionally, they have stopped fresh water production in many areas, affecting up to 500,000 people. Food supplies in the city are getting low, with many volunteers bringing in supplies and rescuing those trapped. https://www.facebook.com/chiangmainews?mibextid=LQQJ4d 1
