Hurricane Milton threatens Florida after going west to East in the Gulf of Mexico. It is going to hit near Tampa Bay, how far away is the question.

The number of high intensity hurricanes hitting the US has increased due to historically hot water in the ocean, caused by humans dumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Trump doesn't believe this is happening, so the US made little progress in reducing CO2 emissions during his 4 years. If you want to blame someone for these hurricanes, you can blame Trump.

Actually, data from NOAA shows the worst decade for severe hurricanes was the 1940s. Second worst was the 1890s. 2010s were relatively calm.

You are comparing 10 years vs 3 years.

Watch and learn.

BTW, Milton is Category 5 now.

What has happened in 3 or 4 years is not climate. It is weather.  This decade has had 3 bad storms so far.  Previous decade, not so many. Hundred years ago, about the same. 150 years ago, about the same. Which data do you trust?

And now the first October Tropical Storm to hit France ....ever.

Actually, the data is only for hurricanes that  strike the USA. And the data say nothing at All about the frequency or intensity of typhoons in the Pacific.

Another problem with the data is that it judges hurricane intensity on the basis of the Saffir-Simpson scale. But, climatologists and meteorologists are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the scale because it doesn't take into account the volume of precipitation. Has the atmosphere and the oceans warm, hurricanes are dumping increasing volumes of  precipitation with calamitous consequences.

I found a list of  category 4 Atlantic hurricanes that occurred during the 20th and 21st centuries. During the 1940s there was a total of eight category 4 hurricanes. So far, during this decade there have already been 12.

And there are still five more years to go.

You are responding to someone who doesn't understand the greenhouse effect.

There you go again with that blame people for driving their cars rubbish.

Biden has been in charge for nearly 4 years and I don't think that he did anything about it either.

All those big bombs he's sending must be contributing big time to CO2 in the atmosphere, and the planes that carry them too.

I bet you didn't go to Thailand on a sailing ship.

Actually, I think what I'm dealing with is someone whose ideological predisposition make him a sucker for the kind of misleading and irrelevant statistics peddled by denialist websites.

Natural CO2 sources account for the majority of CO2 released into the atmosphere. Oceans provide the greatest annual amount of CO2 of any natural or anthropogenic source.

Yep, let's blame Trump.

This just shows you flunked science in high school. I'll type slowly so you understand.

Natural CO2 accounts for about 280 ppm in the atmosphere. That amount means that natural forcing factors drive climate change, like changes in solar radiance. With that level of CO2, we have been in a natural cooling trend for the last 8,000 years.

However, human pollution has raised atmospheric CO2 to 400+ ppm. This additional CO2 is causing global warming and the hot oceans that are fueling more powerful hurricane.

As an aside, climate change is not necessary a bad thing. But that is fodder for a different topic.

I wasn't aware that there were weather records during the last ice age.

France didn't exist back then.

But if you have to go that far back to find a comparable storm, then you have conceded the point that Kirk is a historic event.

You blamed Trump for the hurricanes presently hitting the USA. Please show proof that this is directly Trump's fault. One man caused havoc. Right?  Guess countries like China have zero emissions. What about India?

Only pickled brains thinks Trump caused the hurricanes.

I was referring to your use of "ever". That includes the last ice age.

BTW, had the planet actually gone into a cold cycle, it might not have boded well for humanity, that does not do well in freezing zones. If humans did well in lands of snow and ice, the peoples that lived in northern Canada and in Siberia would rule the world.

The planet has been going into a cold cycle for the last 8,000 years. The cooling is random, a few hundred cold years, then stabilization, then more cooling, and occasionally, a short warming trend.

Some major events are connected to these climate changes, the Bronze Age collapse was followed by 500 years of unpleasant weather, the Roman Empire enjoyed a warming trend, the Dark Ages were kicked off by the Late Antiquity Ice Age, there was a northern Hemisphere warming period around the year 1000, then things started cooling about the year 1400, and hitting bottom around the year 1700. All natural.

But the current warming is far more intense than any of these naturally cause climate changes. And the cause is human pollution. If you disagree, feel free to explain.

Trump's blame is four years of doing less than zero to stabilize the climate.

The hurricane is on its final approach to Florida, and it's wobbling. Which is normal.... but a wobble to the north and Tampa will be ruined. A wobble to the south, and Sarasota may be erased from the map.

Two wobbles to the south, and Trump may be homeless.

They are talking about shooting looters on sight. Not a bad idea. Just hope the police don't start shooting random innocent people.

They are saying this storm may keep it together and hit Europe.
