Pickup Truck Loses Control in Rain, Crashes into Restaurant & Motorbikes: Na Jomtien

A pickup truck carrying coconuts spun out of control in the rain, crashing into a restaurant and two motorbikes parked nearby, causing extensive damage to the front of the restaurant. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

 

At approximately 13:00 on October 10, the Sawang Rojanatham Sattahip Rescue Foundation was alerted to an accident involving a pickup truck that had lost control and crashed into a restaurant near the PTT gas station in the Ban Amphur area, along Sukhumvit Road, heading towards Pattaya, in Na Jomtien Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. Rescue volunteers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

 

 

Upon arrival, authorities found a white Isuzu pickup truck, license plate Chonburi, which had plowed into the restaurant, causing significant damage to the building as well as to two motorbikes parked in front. The driver, identified as Worawut, appeared shocked but was unharmed.

 

According to Mr. Worawut, he was delivering coconuts when heavy rain caused him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the restaurant and parked motorbikes. Footage from the truck’s dashcam captured the entire incident.

 

Police have been notified and are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and ensure compensation for the damages.

Thai rain is incredibly dangerous.....it really is quite wet and slippy.

Hydroplaning (also called “aquaplaning”) is what happens when your tires drive over wet pavement or standing water and lose contact with the road surface, resulting in a loss of traction and an inability to steer the car.

 

Lack of tread doesn't help

So very true.      Especially on Thai roads that are covered with rubber tire compound, oil and other contaminants that  reduce the coefficient of friction. There are some heavily used road surfaces that are as slick as a skating rink when there is some water.

Not to mention whether or not this working vehicle had any tread left on the tyres.

As usual the video is quite poor. So hard to decide why the lane becomes dark after he undertakes. A big puddle which would support the idea of hydroplaning

 combined with senseless speeding.

I was thinking coconuts probably not too heavy.... compared to say a water delivery one. Not enough weight and grip in the back, can be an issue with these rear wheel drive, front heavy pick-ups.

I have seen those coconut pick ups down on their back axle, so I am sure there must be a stability issue.

Yes we have all seen them ass down front up overloaded so much they can hardly steer on dry roads and no chance on wet, and yet again the reporter is an ass, it is NOT the vehicle that loses control it is the untrained, uneducated, and unaware brain dead DRIVER.

That's right with this face culture no one wants to criticize and call spades spades. And I dare say that applies to the Thai apologists around here. The concept of face: not to embarrass someone is fine. But there has been a mass institutional highjacking of that. The reckless on the road situation in this country is one unfortunate example. On a side note. This bogus Jomtien Beach Rd project, the dogs, the "pickups" What was once a nice seaside community (like Pattaya was before) has become a sh*tshow

Hydroplaning. Going to fast for the conditions. The quickly passing white lines show he was going at a good clip, tires couldn't clear water fast enough.
