The incident occurred on the morning of October 12, on the Chak Kapok-Kruea Sahaphat Road in Si Racha, Chonburi, resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to a woman. The accident happened when a pickup truck, driven by 32-year-old Mr. Wutthiphong Janlum, swerved across the lane and collided with two oncoming motorcycles.

 

The incident took place near Moo 11, Nong Kham Subdistrict, Si Racha District. Police from Nong Kham Station and rescue personnel from Sawang Prateep Si Racha were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a white Mitsubishi pickup truck with Bangkok registration, damaged in the front. Tragically, the body of Mr. Natthaphon, a 28-year-old motorcycle rider, was found trapped under the vehicle. He sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull, broken limbs, and deep lacerations.

 

 

The victim was riding a black and grey Honda Wave motorcycle with Khon Kaen registration. His motorcycle was found crushed beneath the truck. The second victim, Ms. Bee, aged 29, who was riding a white PCX motorcycle with Chonburi registration, was also hit. She suffered serious injuries, including broken arms and legs and chest trauma. She was rushed to Vibharam Laem Chabang Hospital for urgent medical care.

 

Rescue workers had to use heavy equipment to lift the truck and retrieve Mr. Natthaphon’s body from under the vehicle.

 

The driver of the pickup truck, Mr. Wutthiphong, was found at the scene in shock but did not attempt to flee. According to his statement to the police, he had just finished his shift at Laem Chabang and was on his way home when he suddenly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the fatal collision.

 

Eyewitnesses confirmed seeing the pickup driver lose control and veer into the opposite lane, crashing head-on into the two motorcycles. The front wheel of the truck ran over Mr. Natthaphon, causing his instant death.

 

Police have taken Mr. Wutthiphong into custody for further questioning and will review CCTV footage to confirm the exact cause of the crash. The investigation will proceed, and Mr. Wutthiphong may face legal consequences for his actions.

 

Ms. Bee will be interviewed once her condition improves, while Mr. Natthaphon’s body has been taken to Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy before being released to his family.

It's worthy of note that the guy who drove 2 tons of steel with seat belts walked away.  The scooter drivers?  Nope.

 

If you can afford 2 tons of steel and seat belts, seems like that's a lot safer.  Regardless of your ninja like riding skill level.

It has nothing to do with the two motorbikes.

The same thing would have happened if there were pedestrians there at the the time.

It is just a terrible accident.

I disagree with you on one point. 

 

Had the 2 opposing riders been in a car with seatbelts they'd be arguing over damages, not dead and in a hospital.

 

In that respect, it's all about the choice of transport mode.
