Hi all,

Long-time lurker here and I have a question. I have been on a Non-O marriage visa for the last 5 years. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was going to travel back to my home country for some time, and was going to come back on a different visa (Maybe elite, or dependant). However, we have a health emergency in the family and I will need to stay longer here in Thailand (probably by some weeks).

I believe I already used my 60 day "see your wife extension" two years ago (as I didn't had the funds readily on time so used that to give myself some extra time). My question; could I extend my visa for a short time at the local immigration without leaving Thailand (Phuket). Could I get a 60 day extension, 30 day or even a 7 day extension would work.

Thank you in advance guys!

No. Apart for rejection of extension and be given 7 day to exit Thailand.

You would be extending your permission of stay and as you have used your 60 day extension to visit wife then the only other option is 12 month extension.

Since you plan to change visa options in future, you could border bounce without reentry permit and reenter visa exempt.

Or cheapest flight out/back reenter visa exempt.

All messy.

Alright thank you. So if I understand correct. I can go to Satun/Ranong, hop outside Thailand without a re-entry, and re-enter the same day on a visa exempt? And I also read that these visa exempt are 60 days now and not 15/30 days? Is that correct?

Correct. Though some of the Malay borders are known for requiring you to spend the night. So you might want to use a border bounce agency if you decide to go that direction.

Correct.

Visa exempt entry is currently 60 days for many countries.

Some border crossing require overnight stay.

A border bounce agent can avoid that requirement.

I would check with your local office, you have not had a 60 day extension this year. (Albeit that you have had one this 'visit').

Nothing to do with "this year" he has been on continuous extensions and in that period has obtained one 60 day extension to visit wife.

That's all he can obtain.

That may well be true, but will it really hurt to ask ? Considering he may well be there to get the 7 day no-extension.

Thank you. Would it be likely they will give this 7 day extension if I walk into immigration? What do I say to them in order to get it, and does it cost money? If not, tomorrow I drive to Ranong, hop out and back in on a visa excempt. How many days will that give me? Thank you!

You would be making an application for extension which will be rejected.

And receive the stamp I posted above. The application would be 1900b.

Depending on how much of a drag the border bounce is for you personally, that is also an option.

With a 60 day visa exempt entry that would provide more flexibility in case situation changes.

Aah I see. The border bounce isn't too bad for me. Small drive from Phuket and a scenic route. Maybe a silly question, but are there any documents I would need to prepare for such a border bounce?

On entry, you will be granted permission of stay for 60 days.

As this will be a new entry, you will also be entitled to apply for a further 60 day extension if required.

I got a visa exempt and got 60 days, then went to immigration to get a 60 day to visit wife.

"No can do, 30 days, next time do a border run to get 60 days"

I said, "But, but, but"........They were adamant at my immigration office....🤔

Your immigration office is wrong.

With a visa exempt entry you would be stamped in for 60 days.

You can then apply for 30 day extension to the visa exempt entry or 60 day extension to "visit wife"

If both are required you would apply for the 30 day extension first as the 60 to visit wife is different class

I know, but they were "all" adamant, a few were involved. Ubon office...

The only good thing about it is, doing a run works out a bit cheaper ........😛

For now OP has not mentioned what his Home country is, just to be sure he is eligible for a 60 days visa exempt.

Thanks for update. Good result.

Thread closed.

Edit : @Eiboticus89 reopened thread.

Can you post detail report of your border run from Ranong with company.

That (I assume ) avoided overnight stay.
