A powerful rainstorm swept through Chiang Mai early morning on October 21, causing a large tree to collapse onto a meditation examination room at Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong Worawihan in Chom Thong District. Chiang Mai continues to face heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas still grappling with the flooding aftermath.

On October 21, the FM91 Trafficpro Facebook page shared images of the damage, showing the large tree, which had been uprooted by strong winds and rain, falling onto the roof of the meditation room. The tree, located near a canal within the temple grounds, crashed onto the structure in the early hours of the morning.

The post read: “Heavy rain early this morning (October 21, 2024) caused a large tree near the canal at Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong Worawihan, Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai, to collapse onto the roof of the meditation examination room.”

Local authorities are assessing the damage and estimated costs. Fortunately no injuries were reported. The temple, a significant religious site in the region, will carry out repairs as Chiang Mai continues to deal with unpredictable weather conditions.
