Cool story but he's more famous and succesful at age 21 than you'll ever be posting nonsense on thaivisa at your age ... Let that sink in.

He was a high level pro with over 50 fights and still only 21.

What's he doing now?

Where did you get this nugget of information from?

50 fights by 21 years old is not realistic.

In reality, there is no records of him in https://boxrec.com, showing that he has never fought in a professional boxing bout.

Maybe he mixed up Gladstone and Tonkin ?

However, I tried searching that site for Jayson Tonkin (full name and just last name searches) and it has no records and he has fought in a number of tournaments - but mainly in Thailand and Cambodia.

Boxrec collects data from various sports organizations so if an organization isn't a "member" or doesn't submit fight results, they wouldn't appear on that site.

Just looked again and I see a post dating back to 2016 about him (as Jayy Tonkin) fighting for AKA Thailand and I found a .pdf about AKA Thailand showing a profile of him with a 17-7-1 record.

(Note no "neck tatt" so the profile pic must be a few years old.)

His last Instagram post was a clip from a fight 2 months ago where he scored a 1st round TKO.

Fairtex had a post about Tonkin's match on 20 Oct being cancelled due to rain.

Ketamine is widely used by gay men to enhance the sexual experience.  It also relaxes the anal sphincter.

Sounds like it would be useful if you're suffering from an annoying bout of constipation.

"swanky" "lavish" "resort"

It's hard to digest this nonsense.

During high times it was a 90% Chinese tour group hotel.

Stinky buses with running motor on the parking space. Endless whistle blowing braindead guards.

Once was unlucky to have a balcony facing this place.

...and in the room I got, the air conditioning was buggered due to Chinese tourists hanging their washing on it to dry.

Yeah... real swanky.

Reports suggest the pair consumed a deadly mix of marijuana and illegal ketamine.

This is like saying the pair consumed a deadly mix of chamomile tea and ketamine.

Please think before offering negative condemnation. Consider the facts as reported. Consider the drugs implicated; marijuana and ketamine. Yes, we all know ketamine  is deadly. However, there is no mention of the toxicology tests to determine  drug levels in the injured/deceased. How about waiting until all the facts are established.  Look at the room. Does that really look like the  "suite of a lavish resort". How was evidence secured when a photo of somchai is on display? And so on.

Well said sir. This is a tragedy and should be regarded as such. For all of your stated  reasons, you can't trust the accuracy of stories like this. After all, they misidentified the deceased right out of the starting gate. There is a race to get a story out that inherently compromises factual accuracy. As to this publication, the writing is often cartoonish and amateurish, written at a high school level. So  expectations should not be high. Cheers.

I know a few people who'd consider a   1,000 Baht a night tariff at the upper end of their budget.

That would be me. I usually top out at around 700 baht for perfectly comfortable guest houses. All the more money left for better things.

No sympathy....FAFO.

Everyone has been warned to avoid drugs in Thailand.  Also, folks, you need to understand that all drugs that are snorted is spiked with Fentanyl at this time.  So, avoid putting stuff up your nose.

Or, wake up on the otherside.

Darwin takes no prisoners!

Darwin doesn't cover young people simply making foolish mistakes. Drugs are a plague, and the temptation can be very strong to vulnerable people. There's the near universal "party" mindset that exists in every country and not just Thailand, and that includes the fentanyl plague. People die of it every day in the US. Preaching judgmentally comes from people who don't understand the nature of the problem. It's not a stupidity problem, it's a human problem. How many people do you think would stop using if you stood on a street corner telling people to "avoid putting stuff up your nose"? So who are you talking to here? What "folks"? My brother died of an OD at age 42 and I can tell you most certainly that he wasn't a stupid person. He had emotional problems that he couldn't deal with.

How many tragedies will it take for people to understand that drug use can be lethal and at "best",  end up in completely wrecking the user's judgment, behaviour and brain ?

Let´s say like this. People are still starting wars, even as they have seen the results of them for thousands of years.

"They encountered the dead man’s friend standing outside the room, shaking. He asked the workers to check on his friend, who had suddenly stopped breathing." So his friend outside the room didn't render assistance? Seeing he had the acumen to realise his friend wasn't breathing surely he could have, unless it was the hotel staff that noticed? Seems a bit strange though.

I stayed at the Vogue's a couple times in the past. A nice please, but not lavish at all. It's the next level above a guesthouse in soi buakhao (speaking of which, some have decent rooms)

Yes, he "was" all of those things and probably a lot more. Now he'll be remembered for dying like a junkie in a 700 baht flop house off of Buakhao.

Let that sink in.

When you have a son as a junkie, all family bedrooms have padlocks fitted, car keys locked away and visitors told to keep handbags and valuables on their person at all times, local burglaries laid at your door.  Visits by 6 cops, search warrants and sniffer dogs descending on your home and if drugs found repairs to doors/windows at your own expense.

Jail!!!!!  Do not make me laugh drugs were freely available in jail, wardens/guards are the unseen pushers to keep the so called "Krazies" calm.

When the nightmare does end it is usually death.

29th, December 2016 aged 27 my son took his life, a nightmare ended, yet to many that never directly suffered at the centre of pain, memories become kinder??  Me, mine have never changed, drugs destroy families, destroy family relationships, drugs are not innocent fun and a cheap way to happiness they are a path to conflict, loneliness and death.

Do not ask for my solution to drug taking and the problems, you will not like my solution nor its timescale.

As those two young men have found out, one with his life the haphazard way taking of drugs and thinking they are in control being smart!!!!!  usually ends in death.

I've witnessed the same thing with close friends, hence the seemingly harsh statement.  This young man's death is now a "tragedy" instead of a "thank God it's finally over".
