Top Oxfordshire Prep School to Close Amid Controversial VAT Policy on Private Education
Yes Chomper: “We are reviewing the future of Carrdus School following the government’s decisions to introduce VAT on parents’ school fees mid-way through the school year, remove charitable business rates relief and increase employers’ national insurance contributions. “This combination has put both huge pressure on the school’s finances and our families with a number of parents giving notice to withdraw their child from the school. Another parent said: “We need to fight; this is a school that has been around hundreds of years collapsing due to Labour’s changes.” -

British man arrested for selling drugs to foreign tourists in Chiang Mai
Most civilised countries have a massive, thriving, black market for drugs worth billions. Internationally probably trillions. You may look down on drugs and you're welcome to. But the reality is that tens of millions take them, from construction sites and bog cleaners to parliament and the aristocracy. So they're hardly looked down on. They're simply illegal. Alcohol is openly praised and celebrated despite all the damage it does. Looked down on only by usually prudulent curtain twitchers with the smell of vestries and hymn books about them. Though they also look down on drugs. -

Top Oxfordshire Prep School to Close Amid Controversial VAT Policy on Private Education
No brian. Here’s the head’s statement again: “The combination of VAT across both schools, further compounded by the increase in employers’ National Insurance contributions, and the Carrdus pupil roll falling further below a sustainable number, means that Tudor Hall is no longer able to make the substantial financial commitment to Carrdus School that is required.” Contributing factors are: VAT Increase in NI AND Pupil numbers falling further below a sustainable number. Student numbers already below sustainable numbers and falling further. This on top of the Head’s other statement from the OP “she stated. This timing has put many private schools under intense financial strain, particularly those with already declining enrollment rates.” Very clearly the school was already struggling. -
