This decision comes after recognising the need for more rest and leisure time in today's fast-paced world. The Cabinet gathered today to finalise their plans to broaden the holiday calendar for all Thais. For 2025, Thailand's government plans to introduce three extra public holidays, creating extended weekends for citizens to unwind and celebrate national events. These proposed dates are: 1. Friday, 2nd January 2025 - Extending New Year celebrations to enjoy a longer break. 2. Monday, 2nd June 2025 - Extending the holiday for Her Majesty Queen Suthida’s birthday, enabling a four-day weekend from 31st May. 3. Monday, 11th August 2025 - Adding a day to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s birthday, extending festivities for a four-day weekend from 9th August. This proposal is being warmly welcomed by many, as it is designed to promote a healthier lifestyle by providing more opportunities for family time and relaxation. By scheduling these new holidays to coincide with existing ones, citizens can enjoy more extended breaks, fostering increased domestic travel and leisure activities. The tourism and hospitality industries, in particular, are optimistic about this announcement, foreseeing an uplift in domestic travel and spending. However, some business leaders have raised concerns over potential disruptions to operations. The government, nonetheless, assures that these considerations have been factored in, aiming for a balanced approach that benefits all. The introduction of these holidays will bring the total to 21 public holidays in 2025, marking a significant increase aimed at enhancing the cultural and social fabric of the nation, reported Thai Newsroom. -- 2024-11-12 5 1 6
Popular Post Tropicalevo Posted November 12 Popular Post Posted November 12 The government is on a different planet. Rural (poor) farmers cannot take extra holidays. Businesses are struggling and now people are going to work less or incur extra costs. Even if folk are having the extra days off, the only people that can afford to go on holidays are the upper middle class. 3 7
Popular Post Emdog Posted November 12 Popular Post Posted November 12 Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems most of those who take these holidays are either government employees (I won't use the word "workers") or those at banks. Silver lining might be if gov workers are off those days, it will be one less day they can put the squeeze on people and/or find other means to screw up working people's lives 1 1 4
Popular Post DPKANKAN Posted November 12 Popular Post Posted November 12 They already have 3 times the amount of public holidays than in the UK!!! Also all non government daily paid workers will lose out on earnings too!!! Imbeciles. 4
Sydebolle Posted November 12 Posted November 12 This governmental hot air released through the backside means, that the private industry pays for more holidays. The end is, that the industry makes less money due to higher costs for the same output and that means less tax income with then is whined about in connection with the purchase of most essential stuff for the country, i.e. three submarines. You simply cannot make up such nonsense; it happens here on a daily basis for decades already ...... and everybody is a bystander and watches silently - how pathetic! 2
NanLaew Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Bringing Happiness To The People... Redux Never worked when it was done before, so why do they think it will work now? Oh, hold on. Sorry, I suggested that they "think" about these things. 1
Andycoops Posted November 12 Posted November 12 More holidays for government employees, what a joke. Meanwhile the rest of the population will be working overtime to try and bring in some extra income, no holidays for them. 1

Popular Post Purdey Posted November 12 Popular Post Posted November 12 The UK has 8 public holidays, plus up to 28 days' vacation = 38 days off per year. France has 11 public holidays plus 35 days' vacation = 46 days off a year. Thailand, 19 public holidays and 6 days of vacation = 25 days off a year. Good luck Thai people. 2 2

bkk6060 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 They actually should have a year with no holidays so people can catch up on all the debt they have accumulated. Sad reality here. 1
snoop1130 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Thai Government Adds 3 Extra Holidays for 2025 and 2026 The Thai government has decided to add three special public holidays for 2025 and 2026, bringing the total number of official holidays to 21 for next year. These extra days are intended to make existing holiday periods longer. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai shared this news after a Cabinet meeting today at Government House. The first new holiday will be on Monday, June 2, 2025. This will extend the break from May 31 to June 3, connecting it to the Queen’s Birthday festivities. Another new holiday will be on Monday, August 11, 2025, providing a four-day break from August 9 to August 12 in honor of National Mother’s Day. The last added holiday is on Friday, January 2, 2026. This will create a five-day holiday from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026, to celebrate the New Year. “These additional holidays are meant to give people more time to relax and spend with family, while also boosting domestic travel,” Phumtham stated. By increasing the number of holidays, the government aims to stimulate the economy by encouraging more local travel during long weekends. This is expected to benefit local businesses and the tourism sector, positively impacting the economy. Public holidays play an important role in promoting domestic tourism in Thailand. With these new holidays, many people are expected to travel more within the country, visiting various places and engaging in cultural and leisure activities. A Ministry of Tourism official commented, “The extra holidays are expected to provide significant economic benefits, as more travel and tourism will increase local business revenues and create jobs.” File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-12 1

ModdaPunk Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Trying to pivot to a consumer-based society I see... If that's the case, good old Thailand is gone for good. Time to move to Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam for the cheap life. This is life. Constantly evolving and transforming. So be it. I'm grateful for the good times in the early 2010's. Apparently it was even better in the 90's and 2000's (?)
ikke1959 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) Lets have more holidays.... The people on daily wages will be happy, with less money....Only the wealthy will have n advantage and people on a monthly payment... And with rising prices, people will surely spend more and go on holiday as the wages are frozen... Thailand the hub of non thinking. Get rid of daily wages and make everybody on monthly payments at least 15k a month and the number of holidays will be halved... much better for the economy Edited November 12 by ikke1959 1
