Overloaded Pickup Truck Flips Backwards on Koh Phangan Hill, Two Injured

In an incident on Koh Phangan, an overloaded pickup truck carrying a heavy load of trees overturned while attempting to climb a steep hill. Rescue services from the Koh Pha Ngan Rescue Centre received an emergency call reporting the incident.

 

Initial reports indicate that the pickup truck, heavily laden with trees, struggled to ascend the incline due to the excessive weight. The lack of momentum led to a complete loss of control, and the vehicle rolled backwards, before ultimately flipping over and coming to rest upside down. Witnesses at the scene described the incident as “frightening,” with the truck flipping through the air before crashing back off the side of the road.

 

Rescue personnel promptly arrived at the site and found two injured occupants trapped inside the overturned vehicle. They worked quickly to extricate the victims, providing immediate first aid before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Medical staff have since confirmed that the injuries sustained by both individuals are not serious..

 

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on whether safety regulations were violated due to the truck’s excessive load. Heavy cargo is known to place additional strain on vehicles, especially on the island’s steep and winding roads. 

 

Officials are considering implementing stricter enforcement on weight limits for vehicles transporting goods across Koh Phangan to prevent similar incidents.

That describes almost 90% of the work pickup trucks in Thailand, not to mention stacking products too high in the beds. My heart races when I see them on highways travelling at Mach1 with the load swaying back and forth.

Probably pulled the hand brake( rear) instead of the front biased disc brakes. Still spectacular.

Outstanding - just when I think I couldn't see any 'fresh-examples' of complete fluckwittery... 

 

Of course, they won't be charged because no one was hurt and the Police will feel sorry for them.... after all, it was't their fault trees are heavy and the road was steep...   They'll be back attempting the same thing, next week. 

 

Hopefully, at least insurance won't pay out and that should teach them a lesson... although, I doubt they have anything more than compulsory insurance anyway...  So, no, nothing learned by this. 

 

 

At least they didn't hurt anyone, usually we read stories of 'brake failure' as innocent motorcyclists are crushed by the 'truck that had brake failure and rolled out of control down the hill'...

It is a wonder that no more accidents happens.. If you drive on Phetkasem road you will see trucks and pick ups loaded up sometimes for 3 cars and nobody will do anything... As long as there is no enforcement of laws people will act with this kind of accidents as a result.. So who is to blame in fact???

... the idiots attempting such actions, they know what they are doing is unsafe, they just don't care...

... the authorities for allowing the police to be so ineffective...

... the police themselves, for their laziness and apathy towards enforcement of las.

Not at all ! The front wheels under braking would have no effect . Have seen so many such vehicles braking into corners  just to get steerage then back to front wheels tiptoeing along straight sections. More than one fails to corner and embeds itself in barriers, ditches, and at times some ones house !

Thats if the back axle or wheel bearings designed for 1 tonne laden weight give up under 5 has not  happened first. !

Watch the video again. The hand brake does not actuate the brake lights.

Yes, Moonlover, you are probably right. From the video, I see him nearly stopping the pickup using normal brakes, then the high Cof G and the slope take over to bring about the eventual conclusion. Still spectacular.

I have seen many old pickups loaded with logs parked by the side of the 24 hwy near my place with broken chassis behind the cab.

Would they be labeled two pickups, LoL
