Truck Collides with BMTA Bus in Dramatic U-Turn Crash

A collision occurred at 21:50 on November 20, when a semi-trailer truck collided with a red-cream Isuzu BMTA (Bangkok Mass Transit Authority) bus (Route 2-36, vehicle number 7-50289) as the bus attempted a U-turn near the Tid Mun restaurant turnaround point on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road.

The bus, which was returning to the depot and traveling without passengers at the time, sustained significant damage to its midsection. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, as the vehicle was not in service during the incident and both drivers reported to fine after the crash.

The collision was captured on CCTV, which shows the moment the truck struck the bus while it was manoeuvring and waiting at the U-turn. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause, assess responsibility and determine responsibility for the damage.

This incident has raised concerns about road safety at U-turn points on this busy road, with calls for improved signage, lighting and measures to prevent similar problems in the future.

The longer I waited for the collision, the lower sank my opinion of the truck driver.

Complete A-hole.

You know this, How?

There are many other causes in addition to the two limited ones you have stated.

You dont know this how then?

At first, I thought a bus doing U-turn all the way from left side of road must be wrong. Bound to be bus driver's fault. After seeing the video, the bus driver had left plenty of space/time for the following traffic to react. 100% only the the truck driver to blame on this one. Thankfully no innocent passengers on the bus.

It only took me 35 seconds, the length of the video, to do this.

And I'm an authority on nothing (outside of molecular genetics!  🙂)!

True the truck driver must be half blind.

But then again a bus taking up two lanes to do a U-turn is asking for trouble, why they don't make these large roundabouts I don't know.

"They" don't make these large roundabouts because Thai drivers don't understand how they work.

The reason for the lack of roundabouts is, MONEY!!

U-Turn from the farthest left lane? Yup, that's a moronic Thai driving habit. I usually have people do it from the middle lane, but this is on a whole other level of stupidity.

The turning circle on busses is likely not tight enough to make it form the center lane.

Also if you watch the video the bus was stationary. the only way to have hit it is to have been driving with your eyes closed.

Then find another place to turn around, you can't be blocking all the lanes to make what is a hugely questionable U-Turn.

Did you actually watch the video? There was no traffic immediately approaching, aside from a motorbike, which passed by in the  CLEAR LEFT LANE.

@kwilco will have all the answers for this, he has taught road safety in LOS for 20 years..............:clap2:

Street lighting and reflection on Thai roads is b=very haphazard - a moment of human error and this could happen - the bus was stationary and in the wrong light may have not been obvious.

Thailand has no properly trained road traffic engineers and street lighting is one of the0ir mega- failures.
