Violent clashes broke out in Montreal on Friday evening as anti-Israel protesters set cars on fire, smashed shop windows, and burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The protests, which began peacefully at around 4:30 p.m. at Émilie-Gamelin Park in downtown Montreal, quickly descended into chaos as night fell over the city.

What started as a demonstration in support of Gaza escalated when protesters hurled small explosive devices and pieces of metal at police officers. Acts of vandalism followed, with individuals using hammers and wooden planks to shatter storefront windows and torch parked vehicles. The chaotic scene was further intensified as protesters marched through the streets waving Palestinian flags, releasing red smoke bombs, and carrying banners to create an atmosphere of anarchy.

One of the most jarring moments came when demonstrators burned an effigy of Netanyahu in the middle of the street, symbolizing their rage against Israeli policies. The images of the effigy engulfed in flames served as a stark reflection of the intensity of the unrest.

Montreal police were quick to respond, deploying chemical irritants and utilizing crowd-control tactics to disperse the rioters. Riot officers confronted the demonstrators on St-Laurent Boulevard, resorting to tear gas to regain control of the volatile situation. The Montreal Gazette described the police actions as involving "chemical irritants and crowd-dispersal maneuvers."

While the unrest unfolded, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto, sparking outrage from members of the Jewish community and public officials. Quebec Senator Leo Housakos expressed his anger, writing, "Tonight, while Justin Trudeau is partying it up in Toronto, I was meeting with several members of the Jewish community of Montreal. Meanwhile, this is our hometown tonight. The pro-Hamas crowd emboldened by Mr. Trudeau’s pledge to arrest the Israeli PM. Hope you had fun at the concert, though, Justin."

Social media was flooded with videos of the chaos, capturing the burning vehicles, shattered windows, and clashes with police. One user summarized the events by posting, "Crazy night is going over the city of Montreal, Canada, one huge chaos as anti-Israel protesters go into meltdown on the streets. People thought they would find their car in the morning, but the parked cars were set on fire tonight. To help Gaza. Our country is being destroyed over a conflict that doesn't even involve Canada in any way."

The unrest in Montreal has drawn sharp criticism and ignited broader discussions about the appropriateness of such protests and the Canadian government's handling of related tensions.

This is what happens when you let in a certain group.  Trudeau does nothing and seems to be promoting hatred.  In my opinion, it will get a lot worse.

Letting in hordes of immigrants from Muslim countries into western countries which are at war with Muslim countries is problematic.

Either the wars need to end or ... what? This is insanity.

Well if you don’t like it in Canada, pack your bags and go live in Israel.

They immigrate to a country, bringing all their problems and then want special treatment.

The majority in Canada don’t want these problems.

The ( over re- ) action of Israel to the terrorist attack of the 7th oct has put oil in the already burning fire of anti-semitism .

They had to respond somehow , ok , but not with a genocide .

Now , many more hate the jews ( even if there are some good ones that are not aligned to the destructive policies of their government ) .

If anti semitism is on the rise worldwide , it is directly related to their actions .

The only part of your reply I agree with is this, "the already burning fire of anti-semitism." Yes in the early 50's in Canada one could find newspaper property rental adds saying at the bottom: "NO JEWS". Seems difficult to rid some of this sickness to this day. I think if you were one of the hostages being held by Hamas, you may have a different reply then your pathetic one above.

There are hundreds of Palestinians, including children being held hostage in prisons without trial, for every one Israeli hostage.

Can you explain what problems the Israeli's bring to Canada? What special treatment do they want?

How is Israel responsible for genocide when:

1. Hamas planned and have executed the use of Gazans as human shields with military infrastructure deliberately placed in, around and under schools, hospitals and mosques. Then have munitions in refugee camps, where they run to when not in their tunnels.
2. Israel attracts criticism for constantly requiring civilians to Move from harms way - is a total contradiction, and clearly genocide is a convenient term used by folk who ignore the facts of the conflict.

The term is totally inappropriate as the IDF pursue the Jihadists who have been so callous about the well being of Gazans after their barbaric acts of Oct 7. And I'm not Jewish.

Meanwhile Montreal is simply paying the same price as many European cities with large Middle East populations. A certain % are Jihadists and shouldn't be in the country.

And I've lived in moslem Nigeria and the largest moslem country of Indonesia, which I respect for their practice of Islam and their societies who inform authorities when they see extremism. Unfortunately many Middle East countries either encourage extremism or blindly support (or are intimidated).

Before Arab Muslims were allowed in civilized countries, we never saw such actions in civilized countries, not in recent history anyway.

The Arab Muslims taught us many things, unknown before, such as a 500 ml of water is a huge danger to bring in an airplane. We did nor know that before, and thanks to these people to teach us about that.

And in my town in Canada, before the teachings from these people, we could even enter the City town hall without being scanned and checked in a security entrance area. Wow, how dangerously we lived back then.

Ah, I feel so secure nowadays. Well, I am still wondering what they do with my confiscated bottle of water at the airport, and how they dispose of all these threats. I will never see water in the same way again...

The riot on Friday night for one.
It wasn’t an anti Santa Claus rally.

And apparently they were banned from rental properties according to another poster above. So it isn’t a new thing.

Trudy's (Trudeau's) government turned the taps full on with immigration.

Order from Chaos.
