Nice one...  you held your path

I dont know what makes these guys drive the way they do... they're just moronic...  so utterly brainless.

The annoying part is the inconvenience they cause when they hit someone - or, through some brainless sense of loss of face they get angry because you drove normally and they couldn't cut you off...  total twits...

... I find the Pickup based company box-truck drivers much worse though...

Wife was driving yesterday...    One next to us on our left, another next to us on our right (we were in the middle lane) both wanted to join the middle lane and slowly edged towards us, but wife had nowhere to go...  they were getting closer and closer, forcing her to brake when all they had to do was slow and tuck in behind...

Ok - so most drivers on the roads here are perfectly decent - but that is overwhelmed by a very visible minority of outright fools driving with complete stupidity.

I didn't actually expect that, I only noticed him as he almost hit the side of my car. I had to open my window and look out over the edge, that's how close he was, wasn't sure if he made contact. The nitwit actually beeped at me just as he approached my drivers door. He then needed to backup, that's why I had to stop, as he was WAY TOO CLOSE!  If you look closely, he almost hit me when I went past him on the straightaway, he put his blinker on then started changing lanes while on the side of me, you can see me flinch ever so slightly as he moved a foot into my lane.

Just everyday normal driving.

That's the worst part, probably the biggest reason why I hate being here, just sick of it. If they would fix this with enforcement, I might be willing to change my mind about Thailand.

If they were able to fix the way Thais drive, little by little it would become just like the country you left behind.

Works for me, other than lots of shopping malls, there isn't anything here that I find better than back home.

You mean, if the small minority if idiots on the roads followed the rules like everyone else, then the whole of the nation would be just like the UK ???...     I don't think so.

Making things safer etc is not going to turn Thailand into the West - its still going to be Thailand, just with less dangerous stuff around.

It's not a small minority as I see it. On Suk in Pattaya, the one right turn lane at a light suddenly becomes a 3 lane turn. Folks passing on blind turns, passing with a ridge ahead so they cant see oncoming traffic. Just so many things to rant over if you let it get to you.

If you are looking for support for some Thai bashing you've come to the right place.

The Thai style of driving was here well before we all arrived, it's going to be here well after we all leave, it's not perfect but the world is not perfect.

We are the visitors here, we should be more understanding, try to assimilate when in Thailand, be more aware of their behaviour.

I don't find it to be a small minority, it's more like the majority, at least here in my area.

There are driving laws in Thailand, we don't need to assimilate, they just need to follow the laws like we do. I'm not about to drive like a law breaking Thai to be "more understanding", these are dangerous idiots who should be removed from the road.

I'd say these Thai's are calling you the same names.

Name calling is for school children.

I've been driving in Thailand for decades, my biggest gripe on Thai roads are some of the foreigners.

Not giving way at intersections, disrespecting other road users, Yelling and screaming from their vehicles, aggressively blasting their horn etc, now these guys are the guys who you should be calling names. Obese foreigners trying to bully a small Thai.

IMHO based on how I notice many local drivers is that too many learned about road rules (if any at all) and driving originally on a motorbike/motorcycle.  Cutting of corners even on mountain roads is totally an alien concept to me.  I originally wondered why all the horn blowing before entering a blind turn and after seeing so many close calls began to better understand and change my driving habits here.  And, based on yearly fatalities on the roads, one would think that the govt would change a lot of the rules on motorcycle use.  I know, a useles idea as TIT.  Best of luck out there!

You must be delusional, they drive like idiots, simple as that. If you need more proof, I can give daily videos for proof. My favorite is when 100% of drivers don't stop at the STOP signs here in my neighborhood. These are STOP signs with a stop line and protected Zebra crossing in front of them, good luck getting across.

Now you are calling me names. I'm not delusional, I've adjusted.

I agree that some Thai's drive differently to us westerners but you must understand that's the way they were driving before you arrived.

They are driving illegally, against the laws of their own land (read the traffic act), just because they do it all the time doesn't make it right or safe. Maybe you should stop being an apologist for dangerous people on the roads, or should we all just adjust by drive illegally, you know to "adjust"?

I've adjusted by being more aware of the different driving styles, the bad habits here in Thailand.

What exactly are you hoping to achieve with your post?

Those of us who drive know exactly what's going on.

Just noticed your screen name, most ironic name I have seen on here yet. I want change, I want police to enforce THAI LAWS! I want a safe place to drive, walk, and use a Zebra crossing. Driving styles? You mean the like the idiot in my video driving on the wrong side of the road? He should have his licensed taken away, along with anyone else driving recklessly.

Not normal where you come from though it’s normal here. Once you adapt and expect what look out for, then it’s really not a problem. But if it really annoys you then roll down the window and wave your middle finger and let them know.

We just need a proper police force, the laws are on the books (Thailand Traffic Act), they just need to be enforced.

Yep thats what Ive stated before but the bleeding hearts "everyone" must live brigade get up in arms  about speeding when thats not  really the issue in Thailand its one of the lesser issues the main being the total lack of concentration combined with often being bone  idle and me first.

You ll then end up with the UK's nazi police force and stupid OTT rules heavily enforced, where thers no joy  left in driving at all. But OMG we "must" save every life

You're not going to achieve any of your demands posting here, we are all helpless.

I have made some headway, I bitched enough to my daughters school, that they have now got guards keeping children safe in at least the two nearest Zebra crossings to the school. Also, stopped any U-Turning during dropoff and pickup, plus cones all the way down the yellow centerline. They have also started attacking illegal parking, which was way out of control and causing bigger headaches for safety near the school.

Oh, that's good to hear. 👍

happens all the time, seems some thais do not like to stop or wait for other cars when they want to turn right so drive on the wrong side of the road to ensure they do not have to wait for other cars when they get to the road they want to turn right into, see it virtually everytime we drive anywhere

It's completely illegal, you can't overtake any vehicle within 30 meters of a junction (same for Zebra crossings). Dashcams (front/back) are your friend, they can't escape responsibility if they choose to drive like idiots and cause crashes.

mate I am aware of this but this is Thailand and road rules mean nothing to most thai drivers/riders, most dont even know the road rules and drive in a way that suits them only, no indicators, wrong side of the road, overtake and flash light and expect you to drive off the road for them, they are way to arrogant and would not get a licence in any western country. The fact police refuse to do anything about it doesnt help
