What's One Question You Always Wanted to Ask a Thai?

Featured Replies

"Thainess" as they, themselves, like to refer to their way of life can be mystifying to us mere mortals (foreigners).

With that in mind: what is a question you always wanted to ask a Thai?

  • Author

For me, it would be: why don't you let anyone get infront of you....ever?

From children to adults, whether they are walking, riding, or driving - regardless of the circumstances - nobody is allowed to pass infront of them.

I am not talking about skipping their place or cutting in line. Even when there is no competition for their space, merely passing by infront of them is not something they allow.

Fascinating and baffling.

IMHO often it does not make sense to ask any questions. Because many Thais will answer whatever they think we want to hear.

Like: When will this be ready? Tomorrow, sure. They know already it won't be ready by tomorrow, but they think we want to hear good news, like it's ready by tomorrow.

I guess the above also leads to the problem that many don't really know a "correct" answer. Because they never thought about giving a correct answer. They only give the answer the other wants to know.

What's One Question You Always Wanted to Ask a Thai?

How are you impervious to noise?

1. What do you think of farangs?

2. What is the worst mistake farangs do when visiting Thailand

NOT ecxatly to ask gf but close;

What's the best Thai to English (and vice versa) free speech translator App)?

We, me and my zero-English Thai gf, use Google but it's quite terrible. It changes she and he and verbs to past etc. Many times it doesn't get anything right!

My hotel reception girl was also using Google and it was perfect! We tried same sentences as w my gf and they were correct. The only difference was she spoke very slowly. Can that be the problem?

We had tried speak slow and normal, no difference.

Any advice?

We don't let this to bother too much at this point but if I take her out of Thailand it can be a big problem for her. Also, a safety issue.

You just reminded me of when I left thailand around 2010 I promised the Lao lady I was with that I'd hook up with her when I returned in about 6 months.     She appeared up for it as  she'd call every couple of weeks for less than a minute.    (AT the  time a minute phone call from the USA to Lao was $10.    Even with a regional phone calling plan.

Finally when I got back to Thailand, I wasn't able to reach her.          I was sorry about that as I certainly liked the lady.      I just moved on.    It could have been game altering for each of us but I"ll never know.

I spoke not a word of Lao and she spoke about 30 words of English.     It didn't seen to slow down our pace however.

It's been a while since I  lastnchecked, however, when I didi I concluded most Thai/English translation apps are woefully wanting.

I certainly could have been Nam,   I honestly don't remember.    What I do know for sure is as large as her  breasts were, her next older sister, a beauty, had even larger ones.     And in all fairness her oldest sister had gigantic knockers but lacked the beauty of the two younger ones.

No idea whee she lived in Laos.
