A modified box truck recklessly overtaking on a solid yellow line caused a chain reaction collision that forced a car off the road into a roadside canal, leaving the driver lucky to escape with her life. The incident occurred on December 1 along Highway 36 outbound from Rayong city.

Police Lieutenant Phornphat Sakhonsathian, an investigator from the Mueang Rayong Police Station, responded to the scene alongside Sawang Porokkusol Rayong rescue services. At the site, a red Suzuki Swift car was found in the canal, with the driver, Ms. Thewika 42, suffering only minor injuries and was rescued by emergency responders.

Nearby, a white modified box truck with damage to its left fuel tank and a gray car with scrapes on both sides were also found. All vehicles were taken in for further investigation.

According to Ms. Thewika, she had been driving steadily in the middle lane when she suddenly felt her car being hit and found herself plunging into the canal. “It was terrifying,” she said.

The driver of the gray car, stated that he had been driving ahead of the red car when the box truck abruptly overtook on the right. This reckless maneuver led to the collisions.

The driver of the modified truck, Mr. Kritsana 34, admitted that he had been frustrated by the frequent braking of the gray car ahead of him. “I couldn’t overtake on the left, and when the car in front braked again, I lost control and had to swerve to the right to avoid going off the road,” he explained. His sudden movement caused him to collide with the other vehicles.

CCTV footage from a nearby area confirmed that the modified truck illegally overtook on a solid yellow line, leading to the collision. Authorities have taken Mr. Kritsana into custody for questioning at Mueang Rayong Police Station and are proceeding with legal action.

Further updates on this case will be provided as investigations continue.
