Another helmet campaign!

Safety First !

How about a  effective  police presence!

I had to laugh the other day they paved the dirt soi with cement only so they

could wait for it to cure to put their lovely designs on it, consisting of yellow median strips, stop signs , intersections signs and speed limit signage. Nobody up here obeys them!

side note, they dismantled the fire hydrant and never attempted to replace it.

Here in Muang Thong Thani they don't care about yellow lines, red and white curbs or No-Parking signs, and they totally refuse to stop for any STOP signs, forget about crossing in a Zebra crossing, they'll kill you if you dare. It's a free for all here, no police presence, and nobody follows any laws or road rules, they actually deliberately flaunt the laws here.

Agree, its a free for all !

My wife keeps telling me ,This is Thailand!

In a significant move to enhance road safety for tourists in Thailand, CP All Public Company Limited, the parent company of 7-Eleven in Thailand, has partnered with the Tourist Police Bureau and the British Embassy. Announced by CEO Mr. Yuthasak Poomsurakul on 2nd December 2024, this initiative targets common risks faced by international tourists, focusing on the importance of wearing helmets and avoiding driving under the influence.

7-Eleven stores will serve as key information centres, providing useful advice on safe driving practices. This includes adhering to traffic laws, the necessity of wearing helmets, and obtaining accident insurance. A total of 155 branches across 18 provinces will participate, featuring safety messages on posters and point-of-sale screens.

Tourist Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phuak-am emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly during peak travel seasons when road accidents spike due to unfamiliarity with local traffic laws. The police are also intensifying checks on vehicle rental businesses and public transport drivers to ensure compliance with safety standards.

From the British Embassy's perspective, Consul Joanne Finnamore-Crorkin reiterated that safeguarding UK visitors is crucial, noting that over 870,000 British tourists visited Thailand in 2023. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce accidents and boost tourist confidence in Thai road safety, supporting the ongoing recovery of the tourism industry.

This collaboration underscores a united effort among Thai authorities, the private sector, and international partners like the British Embassy to improve safety measures, reinforcing Thailand’s status as a premier tourist destination, reported The Pattaya News.

Why concentrate on Foreign Tourists. Apply it to everyone as there are more Thais killed or maimed than us lot.

No motorcycle licence you don't ride... easy

What a cheap PR stint by all parties involved. If you are serious about it (and sofar nobody really ever cared) then push for law IMPLEMENTATION.

Only stringent adherence with stiff fines, impounding of vehicles and possible free stays in jails will push the subject in the right direction. Not only drivers but car owners have to be held responsible for whatever happens with their vehicles. At the same time get the biggest available hoover out and clean up the police force.

Sounds too futuristic? Yes, you're absolutely right. But it certainly serves for some free advertising of doing good. Staggering though to understand, how the British Embassy was gotten involved - a do-gooder with no clue of what happens on Thai roads maybe?

So where is the highway patrol who are supposed to be patrolling the highways, and the ridiculously lame police who also refuse to patrol the highways? Where are the safety standards, where is the search for reckless drivers?

Why 7-Eleven, such silliness. An admission of surrender on the part of the police.

Ha ha ha. Any Brit, or anyone for that matter, who drives a motorbike without a helmet, unqualified and pi55ed, deserves all that happens to them. The British Embassy isn't going to help them out in any way.

We aren’t worried about the cause of the accident.  It the collateral damage.

Why are you targeting only Brits, most of us understand right and wrong... but we acknowledge the issue is not 1 particular culture,  you seem to have a racist stance on Brits... and no, I am not a Brit.

Please read where I said 'or anyone for that matter'. Why would a boy from Manchester (City) have a 'racist stance on Brits'

Good idea, most days I see an aggressive Pom on the road.

Yelling, screaming, blasting their horn, driving erratically etc.

Do you not notice aggressive Chinese, Russians and Thais on their bikes, as opposed to 'an aggressive Pom'?

Saw a 'farang' in soi Bhoakhoa yesterday happily riding along on his rally cross bike with no helmet, and only a pair of shorts and trainers. People come here and just think the idiocy of looking cool trumps life risk
