All these various topics about paying for sex in Thailand versus not paying for it inevitably attract at least three or four geezers who proudly share fanciful stories about their amazing Thai girlfriends. They’ll gush about how their girlfriends never expect any money for anything, sometimes even buy them things because their much younger girlfriend genuinely just enjoys their company. They’ll claim it’s all just a casual relationship based on mutual desire with no strings attached. These posts never fail to give me a really strong giggle. Let’s be honest, boys—there are only two types of women: those playing the short game and those playing the long game, and it’s the same whether they are actually on the game or not. So if you genuinely believe that your relationship is just coasting along, with your partner delighted to be with you and happy to lick the nasty sweat off your balls with no expectations of anything from you for the future, then chances are, you’re fooling yourself.

Use to be 3/4 a day for me, but  then it started interfering with me finding time for a decent chag wow..

Let´s just say like this. If you only had 75% of a person per day, then you have really lived a strange life. What part was mostly missing? 😂

Do you see the millions of hard working Thai women who usually have a Thai husband that contributes less than them?

Are you saying these women are playing some weird long game? How long? Next life maybe? Lol.

Think of Women ..like cars..

all the same factors apply

Rent  & Return, no more to pay

OR ..Buy & pay $$$$ ...

High/ Low mileage

Hidden problems ( gears, collision damage)

Maintenance

Stuck with the same model

Need somewhere to park it

Gets old ..breaks down

Smokey exhaust ..bearings, rings ??

OR get a new electric ..

quick acceleration

can't go very far

always needs a recharge

low resale value 😨

I agree,if you have regular contact with a lady but are not living together after a while she will need a new model phone ,or her dad's  buffulo will die or her grandmother will fall out of a mango tree and is in need of a major operation and guess who will be asked for money ?? yes..you and if you refuse she won't come back...The old saying no money ..no honey. So it's really works out the same as if you were living together.

When it comes to relationships in Thailand a key question is: Is it better to rent than to own? By “rent,” I mean spending time with short-time girls a couple, few times a week rather than committing to a full-time girlfriend or wife.

On the surface, the financial differences are clear. With short-time girls, you pay by the serving for the services you want and nothing more, no monthly allowances, no family support, no gifts or trips to keep her happy. You’re also free from the routine expenses that come with a girlfriend or wife, like taking her out to meals multiple times a week or paying for her shopping. Dining out together may start as a fun activity but quickly becomes a recurring cost, especially if she’s accustomed to going to nicer places. All these little things add up over time, and with short-time girls, it’s not your problem.

But the advantages aren’t just financial. Consider the emotional and mental freedom. Some relationships are wonderful in the beginning, but over time, they can become much more challenging. Once the initial honeymoon phase fades, and the rose colored glasses come off, then with it, patience on both sides can begin to wear really thin. Small disagreements eventually turn into bigger arguments, and then those can escalate into fights. Lies and mistrust may creep into the relationship, and sometimes one or both sides start taking advantage of the other, whether it’s her asking for more money or gifts, or you becoming less attentive or supportive.

With committed relationships, there can also be an eventual breakup involving lots of grief, sadness, and heartache, not to mention it being a deeply depressing experience. And then, you’re left wondering if the relationship was worth all the time, effort, and money you invested into it begin with.

With short-time girls, you basically avoid all of this ruckus. If you handle things correctly, there’s no emotional baggage, no drama, and no eventual heartbreak. You meet only on your terms, always enjoy your time together, and then part ways without any strings attached. So when you’re in the mood for companionship, it’s easy to arrange. And whenever you prefer to be alone, you have the freedom to focus on yourself without the guilt of neglecting a partner. And the great thing is, as long as you keep paying each time, you usually never lose the girl, only occasionally lose your turn when she's busy elsewhere.

Some might argue that having a girlfriend or wife provides emotional connection and stability, but the reality is that long-term relationships don’t always deliver those things. Many men find themselves in situations where the relationship has become more about obligation and stress than love and fulfillment.

Some may look at this viewpoint as shallow, but others may see it just as more practical and realistic and certainly less headache and grief. When you add everything up, renting seems like the way to go for many expats in Thailand, or does owning still offer some other major benefits that can’t be measured in terms of cost?

If you are a chang guy, stick to chang, but if you like fine wine, which I see a solid relationship as, and you enjoy the diversity of the qualities and aging, you stick to wine.

Simple as that

Edit note: Found the proverb

There is a saying which goes: “Marriage is like fine wine; if properly tended to, it gets better with time

depends on several factors; how shallow you are, how shallow and materialistic the girl is, how many times you been burned emotionally. how much money you lost in a previous divorce, how unattractive you are, how useless you are in creating an emotional bond with a woman, can't think of anything else

I'd like to suggest a change for those living in SEA ..........

"there are only two types of desirable women that will have frequent sex with you"

Obviously this isn't true in the west because of welfare and government support for women.

Basically it is up to you, but all we see is just excuses for why some do not want to put the energy needed to succeed, and full of excuses for why they are who they are

I only put my energy into cycling ....... everything else, I prefer to buy while sitting on my sofa and posting on AN. I seem to have enough money to finance my preferred lifestyle so why not?

Im sure you are happy with that, and you have never complained about your status Q, so I respect that. Really!

But there is so many who continously complaining, and make excuses for who they are, and what they do, when they really wanted to be something else, or do something else. If people want change, they have to do the job and commit

Seems to me you only had bad experience with relationships or being not able for commitments.

If you have to count your Baht then it's better for you to go to prostitutes. 🥴

"Rent", such matters are better left to professionals.

"Own", is an entirely different matter, whose costs, tolls over time, cannot be overestimated, financially, but more importantly, emotionally, psychologicaly.

The loneliness, and damage, from a long-term relationship, particularly marriages, particularly with children, betrayal, lies and emotional abandonment are long-lasting and can take years of therapy to help initiate recovery, substance abuse, or the feelings of obligations.

Add to that a visa tied to the marriage. Property ownership,, etc. Creates a perceived unsolvable, existential crisis.

Renting, on the other hand, with a growing feeling of attachment, that begins to fail, can be ended, followed by a short term feeling of sadness, tallying losses, a return to independence, renewed joy, a return to self-security change and moving on.

Such matters are most definitely, preferably, left to professionals.

LTR "ownership" should not be precluded, but very carefully considered, never the default choice, nor even aspirational. It should definitely involve consultation with a qualified lawyer and therapist, and not be some "morning after", "what the hell did I do?", "what the hell was I even thinking? ", conundrum, or nightmarish, quagmire with no chance of happy resolution.

Such matters can become life-ending rather than life reaffirming.

Perhaps "rent-to-own" is somewhere in the middle.

Still, again, it cannot be overstated, test-drive, or lease, but choose a professional, the up-front costs are minimal.

Both parties get something they need, it's an exchange for value, an you can always walk away, with both sence of self and securely intact, with head held high

It's a fascinating topic and I'm sure the variety of answers is going to be quite vast. Personally I get a lot of fulfillment and satisfaction out of a woman that I have been with for a long time, who I trust and who I can depend on, and who always seems to have my back, and vice versa. Granted after a certain period of time the sex is not all that, but there are some very creative workarounds to that situation here in Thailand.

I know that at this stage of my life if things were to go south in my current relationship, I would stay single the rest of my life. And I would likely do short-term girlfriends, or short time massage or bar girls, or freelancers. That likely ends up being a lot cheaper In the long run.

I agree about the satisfaction on being two, but If I was single again, I would just relocate, heal up, and start all over again. Cant see myself dining alone, and just being me and myself everywhere I go even I could pay for campany for an evening, heading for a movie, dinner, or just a bottle of wine.

When we go out in BKK I often see men sit alone, eat and drink, and it doesnt seems tempting.

You are comparing short time and long time prostitutes as you only talk about costs.

There are people who have relationships based on love where both partners generate money.
