Thai woman glued to phone hit by electric motorcycle in Pattaya

A dramatic accident unfolded on Pattaya Beach Road in the early hours of today, leaving three people injured after a woman, distracted by her phone, was struck by an electric motorcycle.

 

Pattaya police responded to a call about the incident at 12.10am today, December 12, quickly coordinating with rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan.

 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the green electric motorcycle overturned in the middle of the road, with significant damage. The rider, 37 year old Thongkham Phutthet, was found with injuries including left arm pain and a cut lip. His 18 year old female passenger had minor abrasions.

 

 

However, the pedestrian, identified as 40 year old Wasana Nontasen, was in far worse condition. She had suffered a head injury and pain in her left arm. Rescue workers quickly administered first aid before transporting all three individuals to a nearby hospital.

 

According to Thongkham, he was carrying his passenger along the beach road when Wasana, distracted by her phone, suddenly stepped into the street and cut directly in front of him. Despite his attempts to avoid the collision, the crash was unavoidable.

 

Police are now investigating the incident, with the distracted pedestrian at the centre of their inquiry. With more and more people walking and driving while glued to their phones, the risk of such accidents continues to grow, reported Pattaya News.

I can remember watching a video on  the old Thaivisa site.  Some moronic woman yakking it up with a phone glued to her ear runs across the first two lanes of a 6 lane highway because the cars were stopped in the left and middle lane.  She got creamed and joined the "Dying While Flying" clubs after getting hit by a car traveling in the far right (fast lane) of the highway.  She didn't look or slow down.  Ran right in front of the oncoming car from in-between two cars in the middle lane which were stopped.
In typical Thaivisa manner, the TV detectives came to the conclusion that the car who was on a freeway traveling in the far-right lane was at fault.  I doubt the car saw her until she ran from in-between the two cars stopped in the middle lane - they would have hidden her from view. .  Nah - talking on the phone while running between cars on a freaking 6 lane freeway is perfectly normal. 

I've no sympathy for those wishing to join the Darwin Awards Club - I only have sympathy for the victims of their stupidity.

Electric vehicles/bikes are dangerous especially at speed. One cannot hear them.

As kids, we were taught to Stop, Look and Listen.

I have problems walking around where I live - no footpaths and electric bikes and vehicles and speeding along the narrow roads.

No one seems to use their horns either.

Mind you, walking for exercise seems to only be a foreigner's thing.

I remember a similar video of, again a woman, walking across a square in, if I recall correctly, Amsterdam.  Totally absorbed in her phone and walked straight in front of a tram.  Another Darwin award.  Does it tend to be more women who do this, or is it just that the female victims are the ones we remember?

I saw a guy on a Segway type of device whizzing towards Suk down Klang the other day, and have also seen people on electric scooters on Suk and The Railway Line Bypass.... I thought this a dangerous way to go, but at least the Segway guy had a crash helmet on, and both hands on the steering.

I think years ago I saw mostly young women running around with a phone in front of their face. 

Now, it seems many tourists, old or young, do the same.

I don't know if they check every 10m if they still walk in the correct direction, or if they play games, or whatever. It's just a sad state of affairs.

I never walked into a vehicle with a combustion engine because I hear them. I had a few encounters when suddenly there was an electric vehicle next to me which made little to no noise. 

Most of us are used to the combination of vehicles and noise. If suddenly there is no noise anymore that makes survival more difficult.

She was distracted on her phone.

You can't prove any car or bike noise would have made any difference, in this accident.

 

As for the micro penis.

Yes, I have experience of the same comments,  on here from the same small cock posters.

I have a Hybrid car that cuts the ICE at low speeds and I frequently get people walking out in front of me, or in small narrow sois I get people walking down the road in front of me (going the same direction hence they have their back to me), completely oblivious of my presence as I crawl along silently behind them. 

 

Nearly had a heart attack myself when my girlfriend was driving it and did the same to me as I was standing on my driveway facing the house and she pulled in and glided past me a couple of feet away.

Not uncommon at all for thai people to enter the road without looking at all whether there is traffic. Does not matter whether walk, bike, car or other vehicle and whether reading something or not. 

 

I assume that those brave enough to behave so have a deal with Buddha and/or local temple that the good amulet they have bought  always gives them right of way and protects from impact of gravity and inertia of mass.

I've seen plenty of videos of people focusing on their phones and walking into doors, ponds, etc., from all over the world. Focusing on a phone while walking around seems to be a scourge of the globally dimwitted. Some of these incidents are highly amusing, while others are far more serious and concerning.

 

However, crossing the road while looking at a phone demonstrates a remarkable lack of self-preservation.

Our son has a phone (useful just in case we are late to pick him up from school, etc.), but the golden rule is that he can only use it while sitting.
