Chinese Nationals Arrested for Working as Real Estate Agents in Pattaya

Authorities arrested five Chinese nationals and one undocumented individual for illegally working as property brokers in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, without proper permits.

 

This action is part of a broader crackdown by the Tourism Police to combat illegal working and living activities by foreigners.

 

On 16 December 2024, under the leadership of Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phueakam, officers executed a search warrant at an unnamed real estate office across from The Chill shopping centre on Boon Samphan Road, Nong Prue.

The individuals were caught working as brokers, using online platforms to advertise properties to Chinese customers.

 

Investigations revealed that some properties involved had connections to a previously busted call centre gang. The suspects admitted to earning income through sales commissions on these property deals.

 

These individuals face charges under the Foreign Workers Act for working without permits and the Immigration Act for unlawful entry into the kingdom. Initial proceedings are being conducted at Nong Prue Police Station.

 

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira reiterated the importance of heightened vigilance by all local units to prevent illegal employment of foreigners in key tourist areas, aiming to curb crime and ensure safety in these regions, reported Naew Na.

Well there isn't much work for estate agents, (realtors in US parlance) in China after the liquidation of the Evergrande Group.

There are so many foreigners working as real estate agents here. Would be pretty easy to go around and bust them all as they're everywhere.

Not the same, most of them have a legal permit and are involved in the many condo projects here.

Those agents, agencies and booths were all over Pattaya ever since. Germans, Yanks, Pols, later Russians, Armenians even some dudes from Finland and one Welsh.(funny, nobody could understand him)

But police arrested 5+1 Chinese.

They have a business with Thai employees, and lawyers make sure they can operate legally so yes it's possible.

They are engaged in an illegal occupation for foreigners with work permits as managers etc. to circumvent very clear laws you mean?

 

A bit like owning a house in a company name. It's alright until it isn't.
