They had great beers, calypso, yellow submarine and galaxy, but did not last long. Thais prefer tasteless pee water it seems

Those were the only mass market Thai beers that I ever liked, so naturally they disappeared after a very short time  😞

How's the Carabao beer, particularly the Dunkel?  Haven't tried it yet.

Carabao says that they are following Tawandang's standards for brewing German beer.  The Tawandang Weisen tastes similar to Hoegaarden and their IPA seemed like a more flavourful, decent alternative to the regular Thai stuff. What's your take on these ones?

The Snowy and Beerlao IPA's are decent enough. I haven't tried the Manakhon or Nite Hunter yet.

I go with the Snowy, not bad for a IPA, I find the Beer lao to sweet ,but is or was Calsberg  ,as Calsberg built a plant in Lao a lot of years ago

@ Baht Simpson: Sorry, I have to agree with you. I checked the alc-% today in Lotus. Chang Classic is now 48% and Cold Brew 46%. On there homepage is no change. I'll have to check my local shop, maybe they still have Cold Brew with 48%  😉

At 4.8% I won't bother, none are brave enough to make decent stronger beer

For reference - Cambodian brewed ABC "black" beer (stout) in cans is 8% and it is superb if you like such beer as I do!

So no New Chang because it is 'only' 4.8, yet you drink Dunkel at 4.9. Can you really tell the difference?

Fairly obvious just looking at it.

If 4.9% is 100%, then 4.8% is 97.959% of it. Between 4.9% and 4.8% there is actually a 2% difference.

That means you have to drink some more to get to your usual level.  😉

The ABV is the percentage of the total volume of liquid. So in a 330 ml can of 4.9 % beer there is, guess what,16.47 ml of alcohol whereas if the ale is only 4.8 there are 15.84 ml, a difference of 0.63 ml of naughty stuff. I've sometimes left more than that in the bottle.

If you don´t know too much about mathematic, it´s not up to me.

But I will explain it to you, mybe your brain will understand it now:

If 4,9% are 100% of the alcohol in that beer, so 4,8% are not 100% anymore, it´s now only 97,979%. That means, there is 2% less alcohol in that beer, than before.

Got it now?

Easy to understand. If not, go to school again.

Mr. MAGA, one example, specially for you:

If a beer has 5 volume%, and another beer has 10 volume%, so that beer has 100% more alcohol. And this is what I spoke before about 4,9% and 4,8%. The 4,8% beer has 2% less alcohol.

Understand it now, if not, go back to school.

Oh my Buddha....

Ooops 330ml @ 4.9% is 16.17 ml of alcohol, and @ 4.8 is 15.84.  So difference is 0.33.

So do you calculate that amount of alc as a % of the total 330, or as the difference in alc content. Both ways can be correct. Yes there is 2.04% less alcohol but not in the whole 330 ml can.
