New Chang Beer

If beer Lao Dark is now 5% then it's worthless getting, they are determined to kill the beers here

Only 1.5% won't reduce the flavour profile substantially. It would be interesting to do a comparison.

Leo have a new beer now. Leo Supreme.  Here's my review:   It's awful.

  • Yep.   Tried it about 3 weeks ago.   I have contacts...

  • Not a great beer country if you don't like lager. Whenever they announce a new beer it is just another lager.

I remember when Red Horse was first sold. Thais said it was "dirty" because it gave them headaches the next morning. The brewmaster at Thai Bev told me they didn't realize it was 7% and knocked it back like Singha Light.

How much is Night Hunter 180 Baht a bottle or some such ?

Large can only - about 109 baht from memory - Tops and Tops Daily.

Does it have a manufacture date? That's the important thing.

I have no doubt it did but was not going to turn it down if it didn't meet some time limit. Luckily tasted as intended in sure, just like cold lager.

How much? if i wanted an expensive beer I'd buy Belgium beer, but I'm done with them anyway, Dunkel + vodka perfect mix

I think it was just over the 100 baht. (109ish?).

I do not usually pay much more than that for a beer.

As you say- the Dunkel is quite good (54 baht) and Tops has some Tawandang IPA in a large can at 60 baht. 54 baht for a small can.

The Tawangang is 5.5%. (Fourth shelf in my previous photo.)

After drinking cheap lagers here for 24 years, I could only manage 2 cans of the Nite Hunter before I started to feel the hit - big time.

The laws make craft beer brewing in Thailand almost impossible.

All set up by the Big Boys Beer cartel and financial support for the government.

A few good beers coming from the competition. Snowy, MM32, Dunkel, Tawandang etc.

Then there are the Laos brewed 'Thai' beers - Maha Makhon.

Try Snowy IPA @ 5%. It's more of a New England style than a traditional English IPA but @ 77b for 500 ml. and available at 7/11 it's a decent alternative to the ubiquitous pale lagers.

Yes - Not a bad one at all.

Dunkel is 45 baht if you buy a box of 12 large cans

Quite so. It's new so you've got plenty of time to not worry about it. Don't keep it too long though or you'll be drinking liquid salmonella. :

Well perhaps you should 'go to Specsavers", your contact lenses seem to have misled you as to what you were drinking; the stuff was only launched yesterday!

The new Chang tastes a lot better than the current Chang swill passed off as beer.

Not difficult though.

If it's now 6.5% it's increased from 6% (from Makro), not sure where your 5% comes from

From the side of the tin, somebody posted a pic of it today

They should try making some variety, maybe a nut brown, amber, stout, etc.

Yeh

It's just as bad as the green bottled stuff!

Chang used to be great when it was in brown bottles, many moons ago.

Many moons ago you were never sure if you got pissed by one bottle or three!" LOL! The strength of the beer then varied a bit at times!! Fun really...😂

Just looked at another version of Chang, cold brew?, thats only 4.6% Lao dark is now 5%, if the % goes down so should the price

Maybe they brewed a special Cold Brew for you, otherwise the alcohol content is like this:

Chang Classic        = 5%

Chang Cold Brew  = 4.8%

Why is beer pasteurized?

The pasteurization of beer occurs at the end of the industrial production, after fermentation. Generally, a mild thermal process (60°C) is employed aiming to inactivate the fermenting yeast and potential spoilage microorganisms, thus extending the beer shelf-life at room temperature.

Chang has been 4.8 for over 2 years, this cold brew I looked at yesterday was 4.6%

either you need to go to specsavers or Chang needs to update their website.

I had it ages ago in a champagne style bottle. It reminds me a bit of Carling Premier, very smooth, but no real taste (it has more taste than premier, but it's not much). I also tried the Leo supreme, which was a bit more refined than the original, but I didn't like the aftertaste. Night hunter IPA on the other hand is very nice. They also have a golden beer, but the IPA is way better IMO. Each to their own though.
