Joe Biden Faces Criticism Over 'Quiet Quitting' as Public Engagement Declines

President Joe Biden is facing accusations from members of his own party of "quiet quitting," a term popularized by Gen-Z to describe the gradual disengagement from a job without formally resigning. At 82 years old, and with only a month remaining in his term, Biden has noticeably reduced his public appearances, press interactions, and overall visibility, drawing sharp criticism from Democrats and political commentators alike.  

 

During his campaign, Biden repeatedly warned that President-elect Donald Trump posed a "threat to democracy," but his rhetoric has significantly softened since the election. "It's just odd that, you know, he talked about Donald Trump being an existential threat to democracy for so long," observed Tommy Vietor, a former Obama aide and co-host of the "Pod Save America" podcast. On a recent episode, Vietor described Biden's approach as akin to "quiet quitting," a notion his fellow hosts echoed.  

 

A Politico article exploring Biden's apparent withdrawal sparked further discussion. A Democrat close to senior lawmakers voiced frustration, stating, "There is no leadership coming from the White House. There is a total vacuum." Another source noted, "In conversations that I'm having, they don't even mention the president. It feels like Trump is president already."  

 

While Trump has remained active during the transition period—holding press conferences, attending high-profile events like the Army-Navy game, and meeting with world leaders in Paris—Biden's schedule has been strikingly subdued. He has yet to hold a post-election press conference, and his interactions with the press have been sparse. On recent trips to Peru for the APEC summit and Brazil for the G20, Biden reportedly uttered only seven words to reporters, as counted by Politico.  

 

The president’s silence during these critical moments has allowed other narratives to dominate. For instance, a misleading viral video suggested he got lost in the Amazon rainforest, and reports emerged that he missed a key G20 group photo while chatting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.  

 

Biden’s mid-week trip to Delaware further underscored his low-profile approach. On Wednesday, he marked the solemn anniversary of the 1972 car accident that claimed the lives of his first wife, Neilia, and their daughter, Naomi, by attending church services in Wilmington.  

 

According to sources, Biden's apparent withdrawal stems from two factors: his acknowledgment that public interest in hearing from him is waning and a lingering sentiment that he owes little to a party that, at times, distanced itself from him.  

 

As the end of Biden's presidency draws near, questions about his leadership and engagement have left many Democrats uneasy. Meanwhile, Trump’s increased visibility during the transition has shifted the political spotlight, leaving Biden’s critics to wonder whether he will make a more substantial public reappearance in his remaining days in office.

It's recently come out that his staff is admitting they kept him away from the public eye because of his waning energy and increased gaffes. At least the incoming guy's mental instability is on full display. You know up front what you're getting.

And on the morning of January 20th they'll have to send someone around to the Justice Dept. and wake Garland up, tell him he can go home now.  No more excuses, I put his lack of action as a factor in this re-election.  The guy is a political/judicial gelding.  To hell with his back-story and resume, he failed his moment when history called upon him.

Easily explained if one understands his handlers have no interest in having to pretend that Biden has anything to say of importance. I guess they just can't be bothered trotting him out to recite something off a teleprompter that they wrote for him.

Not a very good Meme to use since Trump of not a billionaire. Also, making this comment apply to this story makes no sense as well. A diversion to the story about Biden sleeping behind the wheel of the country.

Public and Dems should have complained much earlier. Not sure if without him 6 months earlier Harris would have won. But I hope Donnie will not make the same mistake by clinging to his post when the Reaper is already knocking.😱

What SHOULD have happened is for Biden to have been good to his word to be a transitional (one-term) president, then have a real Democratic primary in which Harris would have had her ass handed to her. Then the Dems might have had a fighting chance.

Given his cognitive decline, it's for the best that he stays away from decision making, or any type of Presidential work until the adults are back in the room.

I'm sure if Trump starts stumbling around, falling over, calling for dead people in the crowd, calling Zelenski Putin etc. then it will be mentioned.

 

I'd like to think the Republicans wouldn't try to gaslight the public like the Dems did. That was pretty low.

I think this is fair enough. All outgoing POTUS's are lame ducks if they don't get re-elected so Biden is just a bit more 'lame' than most. The guy's 82. He's done his bit for country over the 50 years he has been in politics so let him just fade into the night as he rightly deserves.

An open Democratic primary to choose a more qualified candidate than Harris wouldn't have helped the Dems one bit.

The whole party is dysfunctional.

Trump is still functioning mentally. The signs were there with Biden from the start, but his handlers did such a good job, no one was alarmed, till the debate, when the Dems went into full meltdown mode.

Ronald McDonald could have won if Harris hadn't been inserted. Trump was IMO viewed as the least worse choice, not as a better candidate.

I'm not complaining as we'd all be screwed if Harris had won. We had a narrow escape from Obama version 3.

Talking of Obama, hopefully, after dismally failing to get his choice into the W H, we have seen and heard the last from that man.
