I shall be looking to buy a new bed in the New Year. Probably a King Size.

 

Does anyone have a recommendation for a medium firm mattress, possibly with a divan base?  

Something in the medium price range.

 

It's a fair few years since I bought a mattress so I'm

a bit out of touch with which brands are fair quality.

HomePro has a bed & bed selection/vendor, and probably where I'd start if looking for a new mattress.

 

Medium price range ???  I would expect to pay ฿30k +/- for a new mattress, as that was the ballpark of last mattress we bought.  Think that was about 15 yrs ago, if not longer, and still in fine shape.   Worth every baht.

I looked at some in homepro and Sera Grande or similar name was quite good for medium/firm mattress. Think it was on sale for just under 20000bht .

Also if you look at ones on homepro online with great reviews and then Google the same mattress you will find out about two thirds are not as good as homepro reviews say.

If you can find a dunlopillo latex you will consider it to be the most exquisite mattress that you've ever had the good fortune to sleep on. It'll probably cost you 30 to 50,000 but it's really worth it.

Yes, I had a latex mattress in the U.K. but I'm a bit concerned it might retain the heat here a little more as opposed to a traditional one. Do you find that or is it nothing to worry about?

Perhaps consider CT Mattress, Sleepyhead Chiropractic Accord, Slumberland Perfection, Sealy Posturepedic Active, Sealy Posturepedic Lucern (Robinsons has had the latter on special for around 20,900 baht in the past), and Dunlopillo Malton 6ft - the latter have been discounted from 55,414 to 21,190 Baht by HomePro in the past.  I have included a few images of bed sales shopping trips for background .... Moral of the story - keep your eye peeled for these sales (New Years is a great sales period in Thailand, actually - so a great time to buy a bed/mattress etc) ..... Bought this bed in a box mattress opus one from Pauler over a year ago. Best mattress I've ever had. I really wasn't expecting it to be that good since it wasn't expensive.

I went on a mattress hunt, went to every furniture store Home Pro, Thaiwatsudu, MegaHome mattress specialty stores, all of them. The mattresses were either too soft too hard, price not an object and determined not to pay for something that I’d regret and found a Salik Roma latex. Absolutely perfect. I paid about 7500 for. 60000 for a soft back aching mattress, no way man.

Ikea have decent mattress for decent price. 

Not to forget a good quality of a top mattress, that's the most important detail to  comfortable sleep

I spent $2000 for my mattress in the US, the mattress I bought here , roughly $250usd 7500 bht is so much more comfortable 

What a ridiculous scam mattress pricing is.  It is impossible to figure out if a sale is really a sale or to correlate price to quality.  It's true in the USA too.

You mean that they let you sleep, 4uck and whatever on it for a year, then you say you don't like it.............have it back. I think not.

But HOW do you choose one if you cannot 'try it out' for say a month. 

I paid 30,000 12 years ago and it's still going strong, They do recommend changing after 8 years, and yet there are ads on UK TV for mattresses with a 12 or 16 year warranty.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Can anyone explain what 'Memory Foam' is please? It is supposed to go back to it's original shape when you get off it. So does that not imply NO memory.

Saying that, my brother bought one with memory foam, but it developed Alzeheimer's . 555

I suppose they do that to force you to buy their bedsheets. It's the same with their pots and pans: They are also odd sizes so that you have to buy your lids from them.

I just looked into my purchase records. In 2010, I bought two 5 ft (UK King size), Slumberland Baron mattreses from Index Living Mall. They've been excellent mattresses over the years. Firm and not too soft for a good night's sleep (many guests have slept well). Combined with Soak&Sleep luxury mattress protectors and John Lewis Egyptian cotton linens and 4.5 Tog Hungarian Goose Down duvets imported from the UK.

The mattresses cost 15,000 Baht each 14 years ago. Anything under 25,000 Baht for good quality is reasonable price these days.

Size and how deep mattress is will affected the price

If you going down that natural latex mattress route it is possible to get a king size 6 inch mattress for under 10,000 baht if you shop around

But for the compressed rubber, it weighs about 2 times more than a real latex mattress

Should buy a latex mattress with a zippered mattress cover. so that it can be opened to check whether the mattress in it is a rubber mattress or not

If mattress is real natural latex mattress (injected molded) it is possible to lift each corner of the mattress with one hand.

Largest single width of single piece of natural rubber is 6 inches if you require more they single join the pieces together

A 6 inch natural latex mattress should weight approx 60-70 kilos

There is a youtube video of a Thai buying a very firm normal mattress no zip so unable to see content fillings it was very firm because when opening it up it contain 10 bricks to increase the mattress weight

 

Its important on latex mattress to find out the density rating the higher the density the more firmness

 

Extra firm density rating is 110+

firm is between 90-95

anything below 80 is considered soft

Some stores suggest if body weight is 300lbs or above extra firm  density is more suitable

 

I should know. I am the king of the divan. 

 

Index Living Mall actually have sleep consultants(?) to advise you. I bought a latex mattress from them about 12 years ago and have never had a bad night's sleep on it.
