Just wondering if Buddhism and all the fake polite words that are used ad nauseam, could be part of a solution, or more so part of the problem in this culture...

There are no unintentional incidents by the assailants once this is implemented…

This is an unprovoked attack by younger teenagers on bikes, this is very rare to see, even in Pattaya.

Note to self , do not carry a lot of cash and maybe keep a wallet on you with some baht in it and just hand it over to anyone trying to rob you. Also do not walk in dark areas late at night, take a taxi home.

to the rescue:  "Props" is a slang term (American) meaning to give someone credit or appreciation for doing something.

Pattaya police worked through the night to apprehend a gang of four teenagers involved in a violent robbery of an 80- year-old Belgian tourist, Mr. Richard Ander M. Van Bogaert. The attack occurred late on Christmas Eve in a secluded alleyway in Pattaya and left the victim severely injured.

The gang, aged between 15 and 18, reportedly assaulted the elderly man with a 22-inch knife before fleeing the scene with cash amounting to 7,000 baht. The victim suffered serious injuries, including a deep head wound, after being struck with the blade and subsequently beaten.

The suspects-three 15-year-olds, identified only by their aliases Arm, Crepe, and New, and an 18-year-old named Ton-were arrested on the night of December 25th. The police recovered the weapon, two motorbikes used in the escape, and clothing worn during the attack.

Under questioning, the teenagers admitted to targeting the victim for money. The group claimed they needed cash to cover the cost of repairs following a motorcycle accident involving one of the suspects. The gang had spotted Mr. Van Bogaert walking alone in the dimly lit alley and decided to rob him. When the victim resisted their demands, one of the youths drew the knife and struck him. The attack escalated unintentionally when the knife's sheath slipped off, causing the blade to injure the victim.

Following the assault, the group fled to Pattaya Beach, where they were later apprehended by investigating officers.

The suspects, along with the recovered evidence, have been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings.

Charges are expected to be filed under Thailand's juvenile justice system. Police have vowed to ensure justice for the victim while highlighting their commitment to maintaining safety in the city during the festive season.

Hope their bad Kharma will come round and serve them well. Let the police make an example out of this lot to restore "Pattaya's pristine image as a family friendly destination".

I'm sure police recognized urgent need to track this gang down, and kudos to Pattaya police for swift action.

Pattaya does seem to be attracting more of a criminal element. Are people still maintaining that there is no correlation between decriminalization of cannabis and probable increased use of other drugs and this increase in criminal activity? Seems like mugging of tourists may be becoming seen as an easy way to fund a drug habit? Predictable correlation in the West. Why do people think it won't happen here?

Well done the police and the top brass in Soi 9 for directing and apprehending these feral thugs so quickly.

This was a visious attack on an old senior person making his way home after a night out doing no wrong to anybody.

This was robbery and attempted murder and all four not just one should be held responsible equally.

The Thai justice system should make sure they serve 10 years each in jail with no early release.

Never mind there age they were on the hunt for a victim and knew what they were doing.

Once again. Well done Pattaya police..

Won't happen as they are all minors but 1 and the legal system is far to lenient on minors, if they even actual prosecute them
