Thai Bank With Debit Card That Imprints Your Name on the Card?

Featured Replies

I have debit cards from Bangkok Bank and KBank and neither has my name imprinted.  Are there any Thai banks that imprint your name on the debit card?  It becomes important if a hotel asks you for it when you check in because generally they will be rejected .  AI says this "đ‘ĩ𝒐, 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒕, 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒆, 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒅 𝑰đ‘Ģ 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏." So it's kind of a second calss product without the name.

I wonder if it's that way for everybody foreigners and Thai citizens no name on debit card?

You can request that your name is printed on the card but often it will take a ten days or so.

Easy. Just open your bank app's credit/debit card section and show it to the hotel check-in staff.

I renewed my KBank debit card this year and the new one came with my name on it, unlike the old one. I don't know why and never asked for any change.

Yeah you can probably get away with it at hostels. But not likely at 4 or 5 star hotels.

As far as hotel booking, I'm pretty sure most of the major booking sites DO accept debit cards to pay and reserve without requirement of imprinted name. On top of that they automatically put a hold on a reserve in your account so that the hotel getting an imprint for incidentals becomes irrelevant.

In other words, say you have 100K in your bank account.

You pay 20K for a hotel booking with your debit card.

An amount in ADDITION is locked up until some time after you check out and your bill is settled.

I have not stayed in a hostel for 40 years.I always stay in 4/5 star hotels in Thailand assuming the location has them.My debit card - without my name on it - has been completely acceptable for security deposit and thereafter for making payment, most recently at one of the top hotels in Hua Hin.

My SCB VISA "PLANET" card has my name on it.....

It's not a debit card....It is a Visa card you load up from your other accounts over the SCB app...

I've used it during international travel & experienced no problem....

My Bangkok Bank debit card has no name displayed & was not very useful during our travels....My SCB debit card was accepted 90-95% of the time....

We RV in the states almost 100% so only used hotels about 6 times during 6 months travel, so limited experience....

Side note...

In the greater SF bay area the hotels are clustered with illegal immigrants just hanging around the hotels & grounds with nothing much to do except no good....Not a very safe feeling environment for personal/vehicle well-being.....

UOB.

Bangkok Bank, if you ask for it. Also, banks will not return an ATM card to you that has been eaten by an ATM, unless the card bears your name. If it doesn't, you need to go back to your opening branch to get a new one.

Yes, UOB have a branch here but it's not a Thai bank.

UOB Thai is a Thai bank, licensed by the BOT.

Oops, I've just checked and yes you are correct

I have always thought that it was a Singaporean bank with branches in Thailand.

My Thai debit card is only used for online purchases. My Australian debit card has my name on it, I use that at hotels.

My Bangkok Bank debit card has my name on it. I got it from the Bangkok Bank branch at the end of soi 6 in Pattaya. My home branch is in Bangkok. They tried to discourage me, and it took a week of waiting but I came back and they had a new debit card for me with my name on it, including full middle name.

UOBT is a Thai bank.

I ordered a Visa Debit card via Kasikorn app. There is a request function in the app when clicking on cards. It came by EMS mail a few days later with my name printed.

Normally not unless you did a credit card authorization form or the hotels just had a lax policy. It is a thing nowdays with many hotels.   In any event better to have a card with your name than take chances. They want a name on the card to specifically hold the guest accountable and nameless cards do not cut it for them in that rerspect.

...guests checking-in must provide a valid driver's license or passport and a valid credit card. The name on the credit card must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the card does not match, a credit card authorization form must be completed and signed by the cardholder.
