South Korean Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Fiery Crash Near Pattaya

A dramatic high-speed chase ended in a fiery crash on Highway 36, near kilometre marker 8+200, in Pong subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. The suspect, a South Korean man aged between 35 and 40, was apprehended after his pickup truck overturned and caught fire.

 

The vehicle, a silver Isuzu D-Max with Chachoengsao registration plate, lost control, collided with a guardrail, flipped, and burst into flames. Rescue teams and motorway officers extinguished the fire before it could spread further. The crash left the vehicle severely damaged, with debris scattered across the road and the rear axle dislodged.

 

The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, was visibly disoriented and bruised, was apprehended at the scene. Authorities discovered a plastic bag containing a large amount of cash inside the vehicle.

 

The incident began earlier on the motorway near Lat Krabang. According to Mr. Chalome Sae-Chang, 49, the suspect attacked a woman on the motorway. When Mr. Chalome and his wife stopped to intervene, the suspect reportedly jumped into his car and fled. Despite efforts to stop him, he sped off, prompting the couple to alert motorway police.

 

Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Jirophat Nuansantia of Motorway Division 1 reported that the suspect was also accused of later damaging multiple vehicles at kilometre marker 24 of the motorway, where he allegedly used a stick to attack cars. Officers arrived at the scene to find him engaged in a struggle with someone. Upon seeing the police, the suspect again fled in his pickup truck.

 

The suspect led officers on a chase spanning almost a 100 kilometres, from kilometre marker 24+900 near Chonburi to kilometre marker 8+200 on Highway 36. The pursuit ended when one of the truck’s tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control, hit the central guardrail, and overturn.

 

Despite the crash, the suspect emerged from the wreckage and attempted to escape on foot. Officers chased him for several hundred metres before successfully apprehending him.

 

Pol. Lt. Singharoje Suebsong of Motorway Division 1 advised the victims to file official complaints at the relevant police station. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning and will face legal action under Thai law.

In a sense it's kind of a shame that he wasn't more severely injured, that would have been something that he richly deserves. This is an absolute fool who put hundreds upon hundreds of lives at risk due to the high-speed chase. I hope they lock him up for very very long time.

probably going too far this time (although he could have killed people) but there's such an incredible problem with road safety in this country having a zero tolerance policy feels like the right thing to do some times.

 

This video just popped up on YouTube. 7 killed including two children who were twins. Maybe a legit accident but how many pickup trucks have you seen driving like maniacs, speeding through narrow gaps to pass, tailgating and all the stuff you see daily here.

 

These people just killed themselves but they could have survived like the Korean man and killed 7 of some other family who were driving safely.

 

Risking getting hung for reckless driving would be a fitting penalty for Thailand and save many lives in the end.

Follow up to my previous post. Clicking the link should take you to timestamp 6:00. The trailer passes another vehicle and pushes the car in the other lane nearly off the road.

 

And to the 7 dead in the previous video, consider  that they were run off the road too while going 125 (they were traveling at that speed) and that's why they hit the tree and now 7 are dead including 2 children. Some reckless drivers are hung but that family is still alive.

 

How is it not moral and just to take the situation more seriously and deliver proper punishments for an act with the potential to kill entire families in a single movement?

The Bangkok Post reports that the pickup driver had to swerve to avoid a van that had stopped to pick up passengers.  Where did the "run off the road" assertion come from?
