A 12-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in the neck by a 13-year-old on a rural road in Bueng Kan province. The victim is now recovering in hospital, while police have detained the suspect.

The incident occurred at approximately 19:30 on January 2, along Rural Road 4001, between Nong To and Na Sawan villages in Mueang Bueng Kan District. According to reports, the victim, identified as "Earth," was riding his motorcycle when he encountered the suspect, "Artie," who attacked him with a knife.

Police and emergency services were alerted when the victim's mother, Ms. Sriratna, 41, filed a complaint. She reported that her son was stabbed during the altercation and rushed to Bueng Kan Hospital, where doctors performed surgery. His condition has since stabilised but remains under close medical observation.

Police investigators, led by Pol. Col. Chaiyut Thammasuna, Deputy Chief of Bueng Kan Provincial Police, and Pol. Sub-Lt. Wisanuchai Karom, launched an inquiry into the incident. They apprehended the suspect at his residence and seized a 2.5-inch knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with a motorcycle. The suspect, due to his age, is being handled in accordance with juvenile legal procedures.

Preliminary accounts suggest that the incident stemmed from a prior disagreement. Witnesses at the scene, including two of the victim's friends, aged 16 and 15, recounted that the group had earlier visited the market to buy food. On their way back, they encountered the suspect, who was pushing his motorcycle.

After stopping to speak with the suspect, the victim parked his motorcycle a few metres away. The suspect initially approached the victim's older friends but then turned back and stabbed the victim in the neck before fleeing. The victim's friends rushed him to a nearby health centre, where he was later transferred to hospital.

Ms. Sriratna expressed relief that her son's condition has improved, noting that he has regained consciousness. Doctors are monitoring the deep wound, which stretches from beneath his right ear to near the collarbone. Further scans will determine whether there is internal bleeding.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and will question both parties, witnesses, and the suspect's guardians in coordination with child protection services. The suspect is expected to face charges once the inquiry concludes.
