Aseannow is all about trump and Europe, not much about Thailand

I was hoping after the election all the boring Trump stuff would disappear from this forum and we would get back to Thai news and life.

But it has got worse. 
It seems most of the posters couldn’t even name the current Thai PM but seem obsessed by America, despite not living in the USA or even being American.

Endless arguments, half of it BS, and nobody will change their views anyway.

Should be called AmericanNow.

 

Would it be a good idea for Aseannow to employ someone who can speak Thai? So we could have some Thai news?

It could be great this forum for expats and thai tourists with proper content.

There are 100 forums here, and you choose to focus on 2 or 3 specific forums that are open where people can discuss politics !(soapbox) and what they choose.

 

There is a Thailand News section where around 60 articles A DAY are posted every day.

Maybe it is the way I use it. I generally just look at the topics on the right of the screen.

If you access AN by viewing the latest posts, rather than going to specific forums (as I think many people do as they want a general view of what's new) then most of what you see is Trump related .... which is odd for a Thai site.

 

By volume of posts and replies, this has become a Trump discussion board.

 

There may be many other posts, but it's the Trump related ones (plus, I guess, ones about Thai girls) that get all the replies, and so dominate the new posts view.

 

Yes, I could just focus on the farming or scrabble forums, but I used to like seeing an overview of what's happening in Thailand, now I just Americans scrabbling.

The quality of the AN news posting content is mediocre at best. Mostly clickbait and stories you'd find in the Guardian or Sun. The quality of the AN staff posts are even worse and appear simple blurbs mostly written by AI which are worthless. In many subforums there are pinned discussions over a decade old. The pinned ads are super annoying to scroll down thru.

 

I've actually thought of starting my own niche board, but don't want the hassle. This board will go the way of <URL Automatically Removed>,  teachingasia, etc. The only active, decent forum is the visa sub although while Jack tries he ain't no Joe. When Joe passed the board just withered.

 

Of course, supporting COVID and DEI disinformation, woke agenda has not helped the credibility. To the contrary. I think most individuals here are fine with the gay. That's pretty much many boomers on down and certainly many younger boomer/genx cusp. The gay activism allowed on the forum mirrors much of what has gone on in west. It's not good enough to be ok with the gay - one needs to advocate.

 

The anti Trump activism that goes on to this very moment is absurd.

 

There is clear inaccurate bias which I'm certain has chased many away. We saw this with COVID as well.

 

Finally, I think that despite the loosening of visas Thailand will see fewer expats and far more of this interloper /snowbird types. The young people can't make the leap and the old crawl back to their nanny states for government insurance. Of course, we live here on an impermanent basis still despite all sorts of visa adjustments.

 

Taxing expats is another nail in the coffin. We don't even get three year visas let alone five - or even two. There is absolutely nothing provided for the money we are forced to provide a rather ineffective and corrupt government. This cannot help AN member numbers.

 

Many subforums are totally dead.

 

As long as AN keeps doing what it's doing it will keep getting what it's getting.

 

The name is totally ridiculous. ASEAN is totally irrelevant (as this forum).

I like that AN is all the MSM headliners in one place.  Occasionally there's  topic or last comment that warrants a comment, if really bored.  But that's about it. 99+% is ignored by me.

 

Get my news from RTnews, and only 98+% is ignored by me.  But that 1% is enough to stay current in world events.  

 

Talking to the dog is more informative than all the news / op-eds provided by so called news agencies.  If I want information that I need, there's YT & Gmaps for that.
