A good comparison would be with the airport in KL, Malaysia, where prices of food vendors are much in line with those in the city centre.

 

Food prices at Thai airports are a rip-off, end of.

I latched on to that in Phuket airport years ago when they first opened a Burger King, they have never had a penny out of me for years, Last year when my family arrived I went to meet them and they wanted drinks, ok wait lets get the minivan loaded and there is a 7/11 a mile of 2 down the road we'll get from there,

We do too.  Arriving early at our gate we can snack at our convenience on a variety of things like jerked meats, mixed nuts and even home prepared sandwiches.  Sandwiches are refrigerated and put in a carry on bag  just before we leave home.  On some flights, JAL even provides a refrigerated snack in a durable plastic bag an hour before landing that can be consumed on board or eaten in the terminal.  It's more about convenience than paying for airport food.

I don't remember if I've ever had any airport food in Thailand.  However, from my experience in airports generally, paying what might seem like a higher price goes with the territory.

- they make it in front of me

- they tell me the price
