A taxi driver in Bangkok has been restrained by passers-by after allegedly slashing a passenger's face with a knife during a heated argument, leaving the passenger injured.

On 11th January, a disturbing incident unfolded in Bangkok's bustling Silom district, where a taxi driver reportedly had an altercation with a passenger.

According to reports from the “Social Hunter 2022” Facebook page, which first shared images and details of the event, the altercation escalated when the driver used a sharp weapon to slash the passenger's face.

The incident left the passenger with serious injuries.

Fortunately, other passengers and delivery riders passing by witnessed the commotion and quickly intervened.

They subdued the taxi driver until police arrived and escorted all parties involved to the police station for further questioning.

The incident reported by “Social Hunter 2022” has sparked concerns among netizens, with calls for stricter measures and swifter action from authorities to prevent similar occurrences.

Many have pointed out the potential threat to passenger safety, stating: "This poses a serious risk to customers. If there were no one to help, it could have been deadly. The punishment should be more severe due to the impact on the country's image. The driver's licence should be revoked for such dangerous actions."

Nothing will be done.

Damn, this is scary.

Probably over dramatized as all we t to police station none to hospital. Nevertheless

Funny, no excuse for foreigners misbehaving here , but it's funny how hysterical the cops and Thai public get over farang committing minor misdemeanors and then we have this. Or... People being killed in crosswalks.

It's just the poors lol bickering.

This and the Phuket airport sandwich ripoff should both be banner news at Guardian

The cops should randomly pull taxis over and check for weapons.

Very common knowledge drivers carry all sorts of weapons. Iron bars come quickly to mind.

Don't ask why all these incidents involve taxis and not Grab vehicles 😳😉

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Being a taxi driver in BKK could be the definition of madness.

Terrible income, stress all the time, terrible environmental conditions...

No wonder some of them are flipping.

Many other types of work available....taxi driving is a choice.

Funny because Grab drivers are totally chill despite them using expensive vehicles to earn chump change.

Grab drivers don't drive around looking for customers , they just sit at home waiting for a call  , they aren't on the road all day

Totally agree.

There are always 2 or 3 waiting by the entrance to our development.

They sit under the trees on their fold up camp chairs with their drinks by their side. :partytime2:

They might not work the same hours (they can), but they don't just take a fare and drive home. Rubbish.

Really, where do they go once they've taken the fare and dropped the passengers off ?

Presumably to pick up another passenger within time. I don't know where they go, but when I set up a pickup they are always coming from a passenger drop.

That's the nature of the job dontchaknow 🤯

Arguing with a taxi driver probably isn't the smartest thing to do.  I wonder what this was all about?  The amount of the fare?

Usually, even if they quote you what they think is a rip off rate, it doesn't seem like such a big deal, and it's probably better just to say OK that to wait  around trying to find another cab with a lower rate.

I did mean that when they are not driving passengers , when they have got a customer, then they go home and relax , rather than driving around all day .

They can sit at home taking jobs when they want , rather than driving around all day

I don't think you know what you mean.

Yeah, obviously in a better situation than an Issarn taxi driver , but you can bet they are well in debt on the vehicle and everything else - otherwise they would be sitting at home.

Most have real jobs where they earn better money. Grab is just desperation side hustle

OK, I will try to explain again .

3 rd time lucky .

It would be stressful driving around in traffic all day when for much of the day you don't have any passengers .

It wouldn't be stressful if you were sat at home waiting for a message from a customer seeking a ride and you could then decide whether you wanted that job .

   Taxi driver- Stressful

Grab driver - Not stressful .

If you cannot understand that , then I cannot explain it any further

Start revoking licenses, clean up the taxi mafias, eventually you'll weed out the trash and end up with respectable drivers that people can trust. There are way too many taxi drivers out there, some that should never be allowed to drive a tricycle let alone a taxi, they need to be purged.
