Woman Dies in Motorbike Crash After Colliding with Stationary Pickup Truck in Sattahip

A fatal road crash occurred on the evening of 20 January, involving a motorbike and a stationary pickup truck in Sattahip, Chonburi. Local police from Sattahip Police Station and rescue volunteers from Sawang Rojanatham Foundation responded to the incident at the scene near the engineering department of the Sattahip Naval Base, heading towards Chuk Samet Port Road.

 

Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of a woman lying at the roadside. She had sustained severe facial injuries and was bleeding heavily. Rescue workers attempted CPR but were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Miss Sombun Chomsiri, aged 36, an employee of Best Tech and Engineering Co., Ltd.

 

Nearby, a black Yamaha NMAX motorbike, missing its licence plate, was discovered with significant front-end damage. The stationary vehicle involved, a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck (registration from Chachoengsao), had visible rear-end damage. The truck’s owner, Mr. Jirayu Kammanichan, aged 30, who worked at the same company as the deceased, arrived to provide his statement to the police.

 

According to Mr. Jirayu, his truck had broken down earlier that morning at around 07:00, forcing him to park on the roadside. He was later informed of the collision and rushed to the scene.

 

Lieutenant Thanit Theepakdee, Deputy Inspector of Sattahip Police Station, revealed preliminary findings, suggesting that Miss Sombun was on her way home as usual when the incident occurred. The area was reportedly poorly lit due to broken streetlights, making the road extremely dark, which likely caused her to crash into the parked truck.

 

Authorities are now investigating further to determine fault. Mr. Jirayu may face charges of negligence resulting in death for parking his vehicle on the roadside without adequate warning measures.

So her motorcycle didn't have a headlight?! Excuses by Thai's are ridiculous and never stop, she was driving too fast for conditions, and with/without a working headlight.

The article says streetlights but would not surprise me if her bikes headlight was out, I see so many riding without headlight on. 

 

Sadly some would prefer to ride without headlight than spend 60 baht on a new bulb.

All too common we see motorcycles without lights.... or there is shopping in the front basket blocking it off. About being able to see and being seen......

Duh! We are Back! It only took 1 day to get the next dumby, that smash into parked vehicle! I am starting to think Thais have a specific point system for this. Anyway, I give this full 10 point!
