Immigration counter at the airport for a reentry visa

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I am leaving next week, I would like to know if the immigration counter is still open for a reentry visa, I could do it before I leave but trying to save myself best part of half a day, by not going to my local immigration office.

Thanks

It is still there but it's reported in this thread that it has moved......

That it has moved was incorrect information., nothing has changed as I noted in that post 🙂

Open 24 hours.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Just to be clear, where exactly is the re-entry visa counter nowadays?

Pre-Covid, I recall it was after you went through departure immigration, just before you hit the big Naga sculpture and the duty free shops.  After Covid it was off to the left in the same room as departure immigration.  Lately, I don't recall where it is since they rearranged the departure immigration hall to implement the automatic face scanning thingies.

(And do you visit the re-entry counter before or after you've been stamped out?)

saves me a trip to my local office.

I'm not brave enough to not get reentry at immigration before going to airport. Headed out tonight, I'll have an eye out for location at the airport.

Question:

Is the location of the 're-entry' desk not different for Don Muang vs Suvarnabumi... ?

(*i.e. at DMK the 'desk' is before immigration and at BKK (Suv) the desk is after Immigration - so the departing passenger should inform immigration of their need for a re-entry permit)....

This may have all changed and there is now some consistency - but I thought I'd mention the differences that I'm aware of.

Also note: the departing Auto-gates...  (at Suvarnabumi anyway)... it would be easy to exit those before getting a re-entry permit and maybe getting caught out in some awkward 'cannot, you've no exited' type scenario...

(and yes - the auto-gates on departure do work for foreigners).

I haven't been to Don Muang airport for years, I have no idea about the location of the 're-entry' desk there.

No, the re-entry visa desk at BKK (Suv) is before the immigration desks.  When you enter the immigration departure room, the immigration desks are in front of you while the re-entry visa desk is to the left in the corner.  Go to that desk in the left hand corner of that room, present your paperwork and pay the fee and the immigration person will take it to her left, and you can sit in a chair while the re-entry visa is processed.

Thanks... another facet to add...

Whether Fast Track or Standard lanes.....   When I used the re-entry permit (during covid) I was using a fast track lane...   Thus had to tell the Immigration officer I needed a re-entry permit, then they took me to the area which you describe above (in the left corner).

I guess the golden rule (at the airport) is IF you need a re-entry permit, look for it before you pass the immigration counter and if you can't find it, ask the immigration officer before they 'do any exit stamping' of your passport....
