A construction team narrowly escaped disaster on the morning of January 25, when their vehicle burst into flames shortly after refuelling at a petrol station near Phetchaburi Rajabhat University.

The incident occurred at approximately 08:30 when a white Tata pickup truck, driven by Mr. Paitoon 48, from Chai Nat Province, caught fire just 10 metres from the petrol pump. Mr. Paitoon reported that he had detected the smell of petrol moments before hearing a loud pop and seeing smoke billowing from the engine compartment.

Emergency services, including police from Mueang Phetchaburi Station, firefighters from Pho Rai Wan Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, and rescue personnel from the Sawang Sanphet Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters battled the flames for 20 minutes before extinguishing the blaze, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Mr. Paitoon, who was travelling with four construction workers, said the group had left their campsite and stopped to refuel at the PTT petrol station en route to a construction site at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University. The workers were forced to leap from the vehicle and flee for their lives as the fire took hold.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the dramatic scene left witnesses and those at the station shaken.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting a possible fuel or engine malfunction.
