Trump Ends Biden's Hold on Bomb Shipments to Israel

Former President Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon to release a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, lifting a hold that had been imposed by the Biden administration. The decision, confirmed by three Israeli officials speaking to *Axios*, marks a significant shift in U.S. policy and could have far-reaching implications for the U.S.-Israel relationship.

The shipment in question includes 1,800 MK-84 bombs, which had been stored in the United States. Israeli officials reported that the Pentagon notified them on Friday about the release of the munitions, which will soon be transported to Israel. Trump, addressing the decision on Truth Social, stated, “A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way!”

The controversy surrounding the shipment dates back to May of the previous year when President Biden decided to halt the delivery of the bombs during Israel's 15-month war in Gaza. The Biden administration justified the hold as a response to Israel’s invasion of Rafah, citing concerns that the use of such powerful munitions in densely populated areas could result in significant civilian casualties. This move not only strained U.S.-Israel relations but also sparked a political uproar.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leveraged the situation to rally Republican support against Biden, framing the hold as a political symbol rather than a strictly military issue. The decision also drew criticism from multiple sides within the United States. Progressives chastised Biden for continuing to support Israel despite civilian casualties in Gaza, while segments of the Jewish community—largely Democratic-leaning—criticized him for withholding military aid.

Mike Herzog, the outgoing Israeli ambassador to the U.S., had anticipated Trump’s decision to release the munitions. In an interview with *Axios* a week prior, Herzog stated, “We believe that Trump is going to release, at the beginning of his term, the munitions that haven't been released until now by the Biden administration.”

The decision underscores the divergent approaches to U.S.-Israel relations taken by Trump and Biden. For Trump, releasing the bombs aligns with his administration's historically strong support for Israel. In contrast, Biden’s initial hold reflected a cautious stance aimed at balancing strategic support for Israel with concerns over civilian casualties and human rights.

.....and there are still people who think Biden was "too old" or showed signs of "dementia".

How you would describe what POTUS is doing? Much older than Biden when he became President. But not wiser q.e.d.

He should tell Benny to take out the IRG and all missile facilities, and make sure that all the AD systems are taken out, so we can do the potential nukes.

Then fly a few B52s over Tehran until the hostages are released.

With 90% of Palestinian houses destroyed or damaged, this shipment should take care of the other remaining 10%.

I thought Trump campaigned on stopping using USA taxpayers money for weapons (to Ukraine).

Suck it up suckers.

Th OP states that Israel paid for these.  So, the USA was contractually obliged to send them?  So they should send them.  If there was a mistake in this, was it for the USA to accept this purchase order?  Once they've taken Israel's money the USA should have honoured the contract,.  Like it or not.

If you think Jordan and Egypt will bowed to his malarkey, I got a bridge to sell to you. Meanwhile Amman has responded with a 'flat hell no'.

As of January 2025, there were 76 B-52s in inventory, with 58 operated by active forces.

The shipment in question includes 1,800 MK-84 bombs, each B52 has a payload of 70,000 pounds, 55 B52's could easily take the whole shipment to Gaza, drop the lot and still be home for the weekend.

No, that's not how weapons and other restricted goods delivery works.

Trump just made it work that way....

While you are waiting you’ll have to do with the credible accusations of Trump*

promoting a plan for ethnic cleansing:

* Trump, not some loose cannon within his administration.

Rubbish, ethnic cleansing.............

From a Palestinian who incidentally has had many of his family killed in Gaza by IDF bombs

President Trump’s remarks about relocating Gazans to Jordan and Egypt are nothing more than testing the waters for new-old ideas that will never happen. Neither country is able or willing to take in Gazans for a variety of political, economic, cultural, and security reasons. So, long story short, it's not going to happen - calm down, folks.

However, Mr. Trump and his administration are wrestling with two complex challenges: not knowing if the ceasefire agreement will endure past the second phase and, as the entire world agrees, not reconstructing Gaza while Hamas is still in complete control, only for the Strip to be destroyed again in a few years.

I will, however, tell you this: don’t believe the lies, propaganda, and slogans you see on social media and Qatari-state TV, claiming that Gazans are so steadfast and resilient, they’re superhumans capable of withstanding any war, any amount of displacements, weather any storms, and will never leave their homeland. I’m willing to bet my life, right this very minute, that if the Gaza Strip is opened up and Palestinians there are offered a chance to establish a new life elsewhere, half of the coastal enclave’s 2.3 million people would immediately leave and never look back.

It is not normal to be perpetually held hostage by an Islamist death cult; it is not normal to be denied an opportunity to have a free, dignified life because we’re supposed to love martyrdom more than the Jews love life and engage in perpetual resistance; it is not normal to be led into useless waters time and again, only to return to square one and be sitting atop piles of rubble with nothing to show for; it is not normal to be turned into aid-dependent subjects and make the well-being of Gazans the responsibility of the UN and NGOs instead of the government in charge.

Gaza doesn’t need reconstruction; Gaza needs to be reconstituted; Gaza needs rejuvenation and a renaissance to ensure that this is its final war. Gaza needs to be transformed so that more Palestinians want to stay there and be part of building their nation rather than leaving to other countries.

The traditional frameworks for reconstructing Gaza, just as happened after previous wars, are the last thing that is needed right now, for that would kick the can down the road before the inevitable next round of fighting.

Perhaps the bombs are part of the ethnic cleansing plan that seems now to be on the table:

Trump’s comments were welcomed by far-right Israeli politicians. The finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, described the relocation of Palestinians as a “great idea”, and said he would work with the prime minister and cabinet to create an “operational plan for implementation” as soon as possible.”

Today of all days.

The plan is already dead, perhaps the finance minister Bezalel Smotrich will have to keep up with the news as well as the article you linked to.

And look at the smirk on Netanyahu's face.

More US supplied bombs, to kill more innocent Palestinian men women and babies, and perhaps some Palestinian "terrorists".

Why?

They didn't honour the contract with the Shah of Iran, even though the weapons were bought and paid for.

Shipping bombs to a nation in which a minister of Government thinks a plan which is text book ethnic cleansing is a ’great idea’ and he ‘would work with the prime minister and cabinet to create an “operational plan for implementation” as soon as possible.”’, seems unbelievably irresponsible, and then it turns out the idea. And from the guy who authorized shipping of the bombs.

There’s no denying, this stinking cat is out the bag.

Of course apologists will deny what’s now a matter of public record.

Where are those bombs going to be used, do you know? Lots of assumptions here, no evidence and linking the two together is just a deliberate attempt at misinformation. The weapons being delivered and the Trump remarks made on the plane are not related. You should be ashamed
