A Thai-Irish couple has lodged a complaint on January 28, with Bang Saphan Police Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan following an alleged verbal assault by a Swiss national at a local restaurant.

Mrs Panicha, 55, and her Irish husband, 71, who reside in Moo 1, Phong Prasat Subdistrict, reported the incident, which they believe is linked to an ongoing dispute over unleashed dogs on a local beach.

According to the Irish husband, the altercation took place on 24 January at approximately 19:30 while they were dining with friends. Mr Mathias, a Swiss national, allegedly approached their table and verbally abused them twice in an aggressive manner. The situation escalated, requiring restaurant staff to intervene. Fearing for their safety, the couple decided to file a police report.

The couple believes the confrontation was provoked by their recent complaint to the Phong Prasat Subdistrict Administrative Organisation regarding Mr Mathias’s repeated failure to keep his dogs on a lead while on Ban Suan Luang Beach. Local residents and tourists had expressed concerns over safety, as the Swiss man’s dogs had previously chased and intimidated beachgoers. Despite municipal orders prohibiting dogs on the beach, the issue reportedly persisted.

CCTV footage from the restaurant captured the moment Mr Mathias approached and confronted the Irish man, adding to concerns over his behaviour.

Police Lieutenant Ek-in Sonpromhom, the investigating officer, has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and legal action will be taken as necessary.

The dispute between the Swiss man and the local community dates back to last year when several individuals were reportedly chased or bitten by dogs on the beach. The situation significantly impacted local tourism, with visitors avoiding Suan Luang Beach due to safety concerns.

As a result, local authorities intervened, and the Pong Prasat SAO issued an order for Mr Mathias to remove his dogs from the area while a legal resolution was sought. However, Mr Mathias’s lawyer has since filed an appeal to contest this decision.

The case is currently under police investigation.

Swiss needs to be taken aside and told in no uncertain terms to start being smart or leave.
