Bottle beers banned Koh Phangan

anyone have the details on why these bottles have been banned and replaced by tinned beers ?

still see some bottles for sale, was told we had another couple of weeks to buy, then a couple of weeks to stop selling 

anyone know the facts on this

need to stock up on bottles then, cos cans are awful

So closure of waste site then ? Wonder if this is the reason for the build up of rubbish all over the island now, unable to clear it fast enough

What's the point of banning bottled beers and using cans instead. It will still be the age old problem, instead of glass bottle litter it will now be cans littering the island.

Public and private cooperate in solving Koh Tao's waste problem. The shops on Koh Tao will replace bottled beer with aluminum-canned beer, starting from September 1, 2023.

Apart from the recycling benefit, cans do not shatter and leave broken pieces on the sand where they can cut your feet.

Then there are the professional scavengers.

These folk go through the bins etc and collect the cans to sell to the scrap people.

I had one pool guy who left because he could make more money scavenging - and flexible hours.
