If you are retired, does it bother you that you will never be a Thai Permanent Resident?

  • When you've done it for close to 20yrs it's no big deal and a minor inconvenience,   It's only an irritation and a problem if you allow it to be. How you approach it is the key as with most

  • PR or not, you will continue to be seen as “lowly” just like the rest us, don’t you worry.

  • "especially when you are over 60 or so"   It is difficult for us "over 60's" when we cant even walk in to a room without forgetting why we went in there in the first place. 🤣🤣

Much harder for them to kick you out if your are a PR.

No need to renew visas or do 90 day reports.

Not harder at all, especially if you are found to have used a false ID.

Which clinic will you be going to get that Penis Reversal procedure done?

A small one that specialises in micro surgery!

I would never want to be a Thai resident

does it bother you that you have to perpetually go to immigration year in year out, photos, cap in hand, 800K bank balance etc just to stay here? it must be so cumbersome, especially when you are over 60 or so..

as far as Im aware, retirees are ineligible to apply for PR because they don't meet the income requirements so must always stay in the lowly Non Immigrant status for the remainder of their stay.

I am very close to having my PR in the bag. Just a few more hoops to jump through and I'm done.

It's really great to be alive at the moment 🙂

Elvis from Tupelo.

Yes, all this Thai immigration nonsense bothers me a lot, when I first came to live here about 20 years ago, all that was required was a very pleasant less than 200K drive to the border for a stamp. Now look at the difference today.

How long have you been here?

i just counted and its more years than i have fingers and toes

What about if the UK or Thailadn did not allow dual citizenship....

So let's say you wanted to become a Thai citizen, but lost your UK citizenship. I doubt anyone would become a Thai citizen in that case.

Very true!

You can move to another country and still keep your Thai PR...

It's not really permanent and can be revoked if you don't live in the country

For any FEMALE foreigners married to a Thai man, really easy working or not.

Sounds pretty much like the case in Japan.

When a man sponsors a foreign woman on the ground of marriage, he needs to pass strict income and assets test.

But when a woman does the same for the foreign man, no such assessment; paper-works are pretty much like passage formalities(almost 100% accepted unless either their woman or a foreigner was blackmarked).

And in either case, the foreigners' income and qualifications are not critical issues when applying for (long term temp) residency visa on the ground of marriage with their national.

Their country usually won't give any foreigners PR status straight away; commonly needs 10 years or so during which they need to demonstrate they are very beneficial to their country(including tax payment etc).

The thought never entered my head

I will happily do the yearly retirement visa no problem 😊

still a pain though innit,

PR is better.

It takes less than an hour in CW,  once a year. No pain at all. While waiting for my number to be called, I amuse myself  by counting up the money I've  saved by *not* having an LTR visa.

The Extension I do once a year, takes me 1 hour. 90 day reports online.

You don't live in Bangkok.

Takes me nearly an hour just to get to immigration.

Yes, once a year spend nearly a day there & every 90 days do a report.

Obviously, you enjoy doing it, I don't.

I find most retired people are bored. I might keep working until I drop dead.
