Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Thai tax rules do not distinguish based on nationality, just on tax residence. The revised rule on remittance timing was done with wealthy Thais in mind but applies equally to foreigners with tax residency here. So will any changes. Hardly a surprise that people have responded to the change by remitting less money. Should have foreseen this would happen. -

Woes befall US farmers due to Trump.
US farmers in America’s Maga heartlands are reeling from the impact of President Donald Trump’s various funding freezes according to the daily digest.com 1. On his first day Trump signed an executive order requiring the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to freeze funds for farmers investing in infrastructure and environmental measures based on IRA associated initiatives under the Biden admin. 2. Funds were also frozen for programs such as research into climate-smart crops. Despite the fact the freeze on funds for the sector has since been reversed by the Department of Management and Budget after a federal judge blocked its implementation, farmers say their funding remain frozen, the Washington Post reports. 3. In 2020, the US government bought more than $2.1 billion in food aid from US farmers. Now $340 million worth of food assistance is on hold in US ports due to Trump's freeze on USAid. In Kansas, where USAid was the main market for farmers’ grain, Nick Levendofsky, executive director of Kansas Farmer’s Union, told CNN that the ability of farmers to sell their grain has come to “a screeching halt.” 4. In addition, the introduction of the steel tariff drives up the cost of already very pricey farming equipment. -

Any tips dealing with health insurance agents
A long time ago in a country far away I was an insurance agent. One important rule for us was: Tell the truth - but maybe not the whole truth. If we would not tell the truth that could have bad consequences for our job and working with insurance companies. Not telling the whole truth had no consequences. You should ask questions, a lot of questions. And maybe you should ask the agent if you can record your meeting. Then the agent will think twice before he lies. You could ask i.e. if what the agent suggested is the only option. Are there other policies? Are there options that you pay the first x amount by yourself. Ask! And in most cases talk with several agents and compare. And, if you are not 100% healthy, then make sure to answer all the questions in the application form correctly. Don't let anything out! Maybe the agent will tell you that hospital visit 10 years ago was not really important, or that ear infection last year. But if you don't mention it, and they you have to go to the hospital the next year, then maybe the insurance will look for things which you didn't tell them. And depending on what they found they won't pay. Obviously, we all want to be insured and don't pay anything extra. But the most important part is not just that you are insured, but that the insurance actually pays if you need them. And for that they should not have a reason not to pay. Lots of agents are only interested in (high) commissions. Other are fair. It's difficult to tell them apart. I can recommend one agent in Bangkok who I know for 20 years. If you are interested, PM me.
