Community Baby Boy Abandoned Outside School with Amulets
Pictures courtesy of Matichon. A baby boy has been found abandoned in a roadside shelter outside a school, wrapped in a towel alongside two Buddhist amulets and a protective talisman. The discovery was made at around 04.20 on 6 August by a local vendor in Ban Nong O School, Nong O sub-district, Nong Wua So district, Udon Thani province. Village headwoman Panita Phuchaduek was alerted to the incident and immediately coordinated with local rescue teams from the Nong O and Phu Pha Daeng municipalities. Upon arrival, they found the baby, estimated to be just a week old, wrapped in a blue towel and lying on a tiled bench, crying and moving. Inside the towel were also a pair of small Buddha amulets and a cylindrical metal takrud, believed in Thai culture to offer spiritual protection. The infant was promptly transferred to Nong Wua So Hospital for urgent care. Medical staff later confirmed he was healthy, weighing 2.25 kilograms. He has since been affectionately named Nong Bai Boon(literally “Baby of Merit”) by the hospital. Authorities reviewed footage from nearby CCTV cameras installed opposite the shelter and on a roadside electricity pole. At 03.04, a white car was seen speeding from the direction of the district office. The driver abruptly braked near the shelter, reversed slightly and turned into a nearby side road next to the school fence. Shortly afterwards, a man dressed in black was seen walking hurriedly from the alley toward the shelter, then returning to the side road just minutes later. Just over an hour later, a local woman riding past on a motorbike discovered the baby. Mrs. Seenual, 63, a corn vendor who found the baby, recounted the moment she and a friend stopped to drop off bananas at the shelter before heading to collect produce from her farm. “We heard what we thought was a kitten crying,” she said. “But when my friend used a flashlight, we saw it was a newborn baby wrapped in a towel. I was shaking, how could anyone leave their child like that?” Village headwoman Panita Phuchaduek appealed to the parents: “If you have a change of heart, please come and take your baby back. If you’re struggling to care for him, reach out to the local authorities. Do not abandon your child like this, it’s heartbreaking.” She added that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in Udon Thani will assume responsibility for the child if the parents are not identified. Officials have also requested village health volunteers and local leaders to investigate whether any women in the area recently gave birth and may be connected to the incident. Yeah, the only new thing was the adding of the crypto bit and lasting for a 5-year period only but the rest seems to still be under discussion and they end up having to start all over if a different goverment is in place. But at least IMHO most expats are much more aware of the possible taxation plans than previously. -
