I called him once Orange Man. It was not allowed. So please not Donald Chump but Donald Trump

Same here.

I am not sure which part is worse. That admins delete the orange comments or that someone reports them first. Because if nobody would report them then the admins wouldn't know and wouldn't care.

Obviously there are haters here, who like harassment or stalking or both. To be cautious in posting might be a good advice. Have a good day.👍 Sometimes I stay away from posting on AN, at least for some days.🙏

Good question.

However, who determines what are facts???

Facebook?

AN?

Truth Social?

TikTok ?

Insta?

Wiki?

Many truths available.

Which is your pick?😳

Personally I find peoples' updates/experiences of dealing with government departments interesting and sometimes useful. I also enjoy the occasional joke, albeit very occasional these days.

Anyone else noticed how slowly but surely the interesting, worthwhile posters have left and have been replaced with pulp fiction?

Do you come here out of habit more than anything else? How much worse would it have to get before you'd leave too?

For me, yes and not much worse.

Agree 100%.  I make liberal use of the ignore function, which helps a bit, and save an occasional thread but ~80% of the topics are trash IMO.

Do you think your view and post is maybe a little too simplistic?

Do any of above always tell the truth or always lie? Of course not.

Personally, if in doubt, I try to go as near to the source as possible. I.e. if anybody says Trump said ABC. Then try to find i.e. on YouTube a video of that speech. And not a video posted and maybe manipulated by someone unknown but a video from a reliable source who would not edit/fake a video. And look at the long version, not just 3 words edited out of a long speech.

And if still in doubt, look that up even more and compare sources.

In many cases it is not difficult to find the truth about events or what people said.

In other cases, if i.e. Trump said America spent 300 billion in Ukraine and others say they spent more like 100 billion, then that is more difficult to check. But even then, often there are hints where those different numbers come from.

It's a question of how much attention we pay and if we want to know the truth. Just listening to one source (left or right or anything) and believing everything is certainly a bad idea.

No politician ever speaks the truth.

Not to mention many truths are just opinions, which stated opinion may be true, mistaken, or unknowable.

There is this table with popular contributors, and I am more often than not on that table.

That reminds me how much time I waste on this forum.

The table counts 'emoji' responses....    all of them, wether +1 or confused and anything between....

Its somewhat of a mispresententation...    someone who gets 600 'confused or sad emoji's in a week for posting tosh, will be up there on the table as if they are 'popular posters' when they are not.

This is mixes in solid and resonable posters such as yourself with the tosh and twits I've already deleted for posting so much bo!!ox !!! (then when I do open their posts I see all the negative emojis and realised why blocked them in the first place !!!)...

As far as being reminded how much time we 'waste' on the forum - I see it as entertainment, like watching a TV series or a movie.... I can't always be out going for dinner or going on holidays....   and when we type quickly (or as quickly as I) its very easy to make 10 or more responses in as many minutes which may seem to others as though we've spent a lot of time here - then somedays I'm just chilling at home all afternoon.... and feel like doing nothing (especially this week after an incredibly hectic previous week when I hardly posted).

So we should remove sad and confused so that only positive opinions are recorded?

I think they call it engagement.

For websites it is good when users click here and there. If they click on Like or Confused doesn't really matter - as long as they click somewhere.

No, but maybe people who post so much BS that most of the reactions are negative then they shouldn't be on any popular list.

C'mon....  you're both popular posters in your own rights...

You both may post content which is controversial or disliked by some and considered popular by many, but neither of you could be considered trolls or the pathetic idiots to deliberately trigger argument in every post...

Posters such as yourselves were the core and are the core of this forum and you are being diluted by the AI time wasting rubbish that as infiltrated the forum over the past year...

... I think thats the point of the Op.... We are loosing real people genuine opinions (even if they are disagreeable) in lieu of 'meh' topics...

Actually, sometimes I report personal attacks. Because if I reply in kind, what I did some time ago, then I was banned for a couple of days for misbehaving. So, now I report, and the admins remove personal attacks. Unfortunately, I didn't see any of those members banned.

Many years ago I posted that the business model of this website was wrong!  It would be a much better forum if it charged a monthly subscription fee, say $10.  I'd pay if that fee kept out the idiots...

I'd pay, if they hired staff to write digests of relevant topics, medical, bank, tax. There is a lot of valuable information in the forum but I hate sifting.

Sometimes to have to simplify a problem to ask the right questions.

To get the right angle I inform myself by reading different sources.

I prefer an Irish, US, French, UK and German view knowing that the original story is copied several times.

Often a government statistic will help, sometimes investigative journalism.

Unfortunately only a few are interested on AN to discuss these matters.

I think some people want to know the truth, and others just want to confirm what they know anyhow (at least they think they know).

To be fair, that is not only a problem in this forum.

I only occasionally post in this forum.  I have more interesting things to do during the day not like many posters here who spend their retirement days on a public discussion board. A wasted life.

We know who they are.

A wasted life ? That's a bit strong. There may be many posters who simlpy enjoy the activity, and also some with limited mobility who appreciate the information the forum brings them.

You can post anything as long as your identity remains private and undisclosed obviously. But if it's something that's say a bit hot, wait till you are not in Thailand to post it or better, post it under a VPN, different name and different IP altogether.

I find the fact amusing that I have read Asean News and the previous sites for several years and been a member for a few but the fact I only contribute when I think that I can help and not just post my opinion to be slated by others I am not able to read certain articles.

Obviously just a marketing ploy by managment to encourage traffic regardless of worthwhie contribution.
